Reminder: Hate speech on this forum is NOT tolerated
by Simon insome of the comments on the anthony morris topics have been despicable.. if someone is an idiot or a biggot then they are damaging themselves.. if 'we' start posting vile filth, insults and threats then it doesn't convince anyone other than we're probably as bad..

Talking with a nonbeliever...
by suavojr inin my search for the truth and the burning desire to become free from all forms of dogma and wishful thinking.
i have approached my first crossroads in my life, should i continue to believe in a god or not?.
currently i am leaning toward agnosticism, but all the suffering in the world, all the loss and pain in my own life makes it hard for me to simply let go of the idea and hope that at the end justice will prevail, that one day god can make it all good.. .

Seraph...Why would it take a near death experience to show something beyond?. Beyond what? If you mean beyond our limit of understanding what would give someone a near death experience. Are you saying its a sign from god, would that be the same god as you use as a label? Wouldn't you feel he/ she would be playing a mind game with that person. Perhaps you are hinting at another realm entirely?
I am however sympathetic to your slant on the limitations of our understanding / consciousness .Yes I have similar thoughts about that although if there are "things" beyond our understanding, then by its very question how will we ever know?.But I don't close my mind to the possibility as our brains by their physical makeup must have a limit. CouldIit be god on the one hand...Big bang/ black hole/ anti matter on the other.

...18and jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.
19"go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that i commanded you; and lo, i am with you always, even to the end of the age.. what are all of the things jesus commanded?.

Yes!! ? We can go well beyond what we have accomplished more quickly( solving the worlds problems ). But it is dragged to a snails pace because of the continuing belief om millions that god has the solution .Humans working together for mans benefit NOT GODS would accelerate the process .

I believe the believer's present problems which exasperate mans dilemmas. Non religious people have more focus to look at solutions more objectively IE not searching for deistic/theological solutions, but concentrating on the humanistic causes .Too many atrocities are still committed in the name of whatever god!!

Why doesn't god do anything tangible now?
by punkofnice ini was always told that god did loads of stuff that was evidence of his existance.
ususally very brutal things too (b#st@rd).. jesus walked on water and raised the dead we are told.. it seems to me also that the older the story, the more exaggerated it is...y'know...talking snake......global flood.. there are those that claim god speaks to them now and they alone 'know' it.
(cuckoo!!!).

Sauv... " no one is born an atheist"......Assumes there would be a choice at birth, what a child requires.. even demands at birth , is to breath , suckle , be warm and survive if any of these are lacking is god going to intervene ?. Why did you make that statement ? what is its relevency? If the child was born into a non deist/ theist existence with no concept of god whatsoever it would grow into a person with no belief at all of such a concept, unless you believe that whatever so called god would reveal itself by way of a miracle to demand servitude!!. How likely is that?...

What allows parents to shun their children ?
by man in black inmy son, went to college and got his bachelors degree.
he started his own anmation company about two years ago, and it really has taken off.. while my wife and i were witnesses, we both received grief about allowing our son to go to college, but we stood up for him and backed his decision to attend 110%.. anyway, this past week he finally closed on a very nice, neat condiminium .. and while he is getting ready to move out on his own, i have quite a few feelings of sadness,as a parent, seeing him move on is kinda rough, but realizing that this is a very good thing for him makes it easier.
he will only be about 7 miles away.

Data D . I agree ,"No natural affection". I am currently shunned by my father he maintains his reasoning is religious?.I.e JW religious. Get this my brother who is an elder does not agree with him, my sister who is jw does not agree with him .The elders in his cong' have counselled him and told him he is wrong, because I am not seen as a "brother". But still he persists that I'm not welcome in his home to visit my elderly mother who loves when I visit .His mind is well and truly screwed and fundementaly of course it is because of his association with this crazy cult .So sad.

A young 'brother' I was friendly with many years ago became involved in wife swapping all were JWs. My own younger sister was inappropriately abused by a brother of vary good standing . A so called ' brother' from a jw family is currently in prison for murder and willful kidnapping and torture. My own sister has witnessed inappropriate behaviour between the father and daughter of this same family and reported it to the elders, she stopped attending this cong' as a result.. My freinds wifes father a JW was revealed to be a paedophile abusing his son and daughters for many years. ALL these instances involving 3 cong's within about20 mile radius.
