Has the WT ever said it's okay to steak rare?

i'm revisiting an old topic here, but this was a subject of much confusion for me when i was still a witness.

i went to a spanish congregation in the u.s. and it seemed to be taken for granted by most that you needed to cook beef thoroughly to "get rid" of the blood.

i was surprised when i learned that folks in the english speaking hall would order a steak medium-rare and think nothing of it.. it wasn't until after i left the witnesses that it started to occur to me that if the red fluid that was present when you'd cut the beef was blood, cooking it thoroughly wouldn't get rid of it, it'd just cook it and transform it into another color.

Blondie, I am assuming here that you are asking me. Just in case, the answer is yes. I recalled a handful of talks and watchtower commentary from the WT study conductor. Like I said, is not a subject that comes up often. I've been a witness in a South Texas spanish congregation for over 10 years and I think I've only heard this twice or three times. However, the effects still remain. No one in my family will eat undercooked meat. I know where it comes from and while they don't openly say it, I know that is what it is. I often do my BBQs medium to medium rare. I can almost gamble with this and make money. If the inside of the steak is redish but no red juice comes out of it when you squeeze it, then they are fine with it. But if red juice is left behind on the plate or serving tray, then they ask me to put it back in the grill.

Why is the GB so concerned with the well-being of the accused in matters of sexual abuse?

i'm reading some documents from the royal commission and i don't get it, why so much concern for the accused and his reputation???

i'm starting to think maybe some gb members have things like this in their past, because a normal human being would not take the side of a sexual predator over a child....united states branche x e c u t i v e o f f i c e sto watch tower societyaustraliagsc/as january 21, 1999 no.

While I definitely agree with Vidiot, I think the point the RC was trying to make is the inequality being shown towards the victim. The point was that there is written direction on how to treat the accused with respect but there is no written direction on how to treat the victim. Had there been some more direction on how to treat the victim, then I believe the RC would have passed on this. The elder that was questioned about this attempted to explain that, regardless of a lack of written direction, he tried to explain that he felt that it could be assumed the victim would be given the same respect. Although we know that in practice it did not happen, the justice system does not rely on feeling and assumptions as much as it relies on evidence. Thats were Vidiot's comment fits in. The GB is probably too concerned with themselves to write about how to protect others.

so i have not reported a single hour of fs or family worship in over 8 months.

have not given a single comment in a meeting for over a year.

a few weeks ago, my brother in law, who is an ms now, approached me.

So as an update, I called one of the elders. Fortunately for me, Mr Arrogant elder, head of the MS is out of town visiting (wait for it...) Bethel. So I called another elder. One that I've known for a very long time. One of those elders that are just as much of a victim as any other R&F. He doesn't know it off course, but you can tell that his position as an elder has not gone up to his head. Very decent guy. I explained to him that I did not feel comfortable doing the assignment and told him that I felt the pattern was no coincidence. I stopped short of blaming anyone at this point. I want this to be confusing to them, not confrontational. He thanked my for my sincerity and integrity and he agreed that it would be bad for me to take on such assignments. I told him that I would rather not take in any more parts for the time being. I explained I've been having issues at work and some other family related matters that have caused me a great deal of anxiety. The issue of raising children came up (he is a father of two as well.) and he agreed that family is first. He also stated that "the society has always said it" that family should be our top priority. He also commented on how draining his job as an elder is. He honestly believes all the "Times of the end" crap because he says that he has been attending meeting with the CO and "the state of the local congregations is concerning" (his words). He related the high number of cases of depression, decease and "pressure from the world". To him these are signs that the GT will explode any second now. I nodded to everything he said while I was wondering how many of said congregation are being rattled by the news coming from Australia and else where.

So in a nutshell, I did not directly quit the MS but I did tell him I did not want any more assignments. Time will tell if he did hear me right and if he will communicate this properly to the other elders and especially to the MS elder. I will keep posting updates as they happen. I am pretty sure some of the other elders will like to have a word with me when they hear the news. Like I said before, my aim is to get them confused. Confusion has managed to keep this religion afloat just as much as it has perpetuated the UFO and alien theories. Might as well try and see if it works on this case.

I do remember public talks on the matter. I know is not something that is often brought up and there is probably no written statements. I think that most of the issue is a consequence of hispanic culture. Eating blood in Latin America is a very strong tradition. Blood sausage specially. I would almost bet that the subject was originated by some elder or CO who decided to use his own ignorant reasoning and spread the word because I do remember being told this. I've always liked my meat medium. Besides being delicious, it is well known that the cooking process lowers the quality of the protein. I too arrived to the conclusion that even if it was blood, cooking it would not make it different. I did so a long time ago, even before awakening. If cooking blood would make it ok, then eating blood sausage would not be a problem. If they really want to be so picky about it, then they need to start letting JWs now that they need to wash their steak until it gets pale. Just like some jewish people do.

So the week of the said assignment is here. I finally decided that I don't want do it. I told my wife today (since her and my oldest daughter are supposed to be in it as well) and at first she said it was ok, that she would do it with my daughter. I said that I did not think it was possible but then I realized that my real problem is that I do not agree to present this as a spiritually speaking mono parental house. I told her that I felt they wanted me to look like a hypocrite in front of my family. She was somewhat receptive to my feelings and politely asked me why I don't just talk to them. She suggested that I tell them straight out that I am having doubts and I would like to quit the MS until I work on it. Obviously, that sounds phenomenal at first look. I told her that I thought it was a great suggestion, especially if we both be in agreement but I also pointed out that wether we like or not, such statement would open up pandora's box and that eventually an elder would come around inquiring of me.

I definitely feel strongly towards this opportunity of dropping out of the MS but I would have preferred to do so under different reasons. I have a bit of a situation here because...

- Mother in law lives with us and if this evolves into something worst she may choose to move out. I know this could also be ideal but she really helps us with our kids while my wife works. If it wasn't for her, we would have to get a day care, forcing my wife to work just to dump all her pay into the system. We really can't afford that right now.

- Mother in law sleeps with the kids most nights and she tends to answer their questions when we are not listening (bed time). Sometimes the kids asks and I could actively answer them before she does but at the same time she has the tendency to answer questions that have not been asked, if you know what I mean.

- In the other hand, eventually word will spread around and I know a couple of sisters that love to stab in the back. They will probably begin treating my children as spiritual orphans.

- In the short term, I am afraid that someone will try to replace me in this assignment. The theme is about Jehovahs advice for children and a father figure is almost mandatory in such scenario. I warned my wife that if they do that I am going to be utterly pissed. She doesn't seem to think such would happen but I've had a couple of situation where elders have jumped the gun on me in order to get their nose into family affairs.

In the short term, I see it as a good thing. My only idea right now is to make the whole thing as confusing as possible for the elders so that they will think twice before approaching me with their "shepherding". In the long term, I know that the questioning will eventually become greater and greater. In your opinion, would it be difficult to maintain an environment where they stay away from me while sparing my family of their harmful counsel towards me?

And with all these coverage of the RC, why would it matter if the assemblies are large or not? Would you not expect media coverage at any of the conventions? I'd be disappointed if they did not cover it.

If they spin this as the beginning of the GT, is very likely to succeed. (My bet as I've posted before is that this is the very reason they changed the teaching on Gog of Magog). However, I don't think it will succeed as it did in 75. No prophetic numbers to show for. People love the mystery behind prophetic numbers. I think the major success will not come from an increase in membership. In fact, they should count their blessings if it helps them keep their numbers stable. I think success of such a spin off would come in the way of "donate more without question" because Jehovah's work is accelerating and we need all the help we can get. I think they will be more able than ever to push the loyal ones to "get out of the world" and "simplify their lives" so they can dedicate more time to the org. Serve in another country where growth is happening as it is. And much more.

I think we can expect even broader news coverage after the hearing is over. Right now everything is regarded as "allegations". It is now that the evidence is being presented. Any rational news outlet will limit itself to report that the hearing is ongoing at this stage. If anything meaningful comes out of this hearing, I am pretty sure it will receive wider exposure.

I doubt the US will see a hearing like this one any time soon, we are just too conservative to admit our faults. I think it will happen eventually but judging on past history, it will have to involve an abuse case taken all the way to the supreme court for anything these significant to happen.
