Is manner of dress more important than respect for Jehovah?
by LaurieM inmy mother and i were discussing the fact that she was told by a minister of the jehovah's witnesses upon being asked whether mother was going to be attending a book study at her local kingdom hall and mother requested whether she could wear slacks she was told that it would not show respect to jehovah and that women in the kingdom hall should "dress appropriately" by wearing skirts or dresses.
after discussing this, my mother and i feel that the manner of dress of a jehovah's witnesses, whether man or woman is totally irrelevant to respect to jehovah god.
clearly, even if one were to present themselves at hall in rags, that person is not disrespectful to jehovah if his mind and heart are open to god's word.

I joined this forum many years ago just to find out about a 'special announcement'. It took a while, but slowly and surely, it dawned on me what the announcements were ALWAYS about... You can read my views in a previous post of mine... "Why I joined this forum" http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/116839/1.ashx

Check for possible referred pain due to a knot somewhere else. Wiggle the painful digit and feel your tendon, trace the tendon back along your arm by pressing on it. The tendon should end near your elbow. If it becomes tender in an area you didn’t expect to find tender, massage the knot, preferably with peanut or olive oil.

Wow! This is really an eye opener, having never attending a convention. First let me quote the parts I found weird, and then I will make my comments.
The speaker says, "...many teenagers find Jehovah’s laws too heavy... too burdensome... perhaps"
"If your child truly loves Jehovah, his expressions will be similar to this..."
“…let’s look at first John 5:3….”
Reads from Bible, “…we observe his commandments [Jehovah’s]… and yet his commandments are not burdensome.”
“So we observe them joyfully, we appreciate those commandments. So how are our children doing? … Do they appreciate those reminders, those commandments?”
“Well hopefully so, if not, perhaps that’s an area we need to work on.”
…and strangely that’s the end of that subject and onto the next topic where the same theme is expanded in similar fashion.
If an ox is burdened with a heavy yoke, pulling a heavy load, does the ox appreciate the reminder that his load “should not be heavy” because he loves his master? The advice from the WatchTower is ‘If the ox does not appreciate the master, then perhaps that’s an area the ox should work on.’
Or does Jesus draw the analogy that the ox will appreciate the master because the master does not burden the ox with a heavy load?
This simply analogy using simply farming concepts for a simple person is pretty hard to screw up. Is it just me, or have The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc got this all backwards? -

I'm a nervous wreck! (rant)
by MsMcDucket infirst they told me that my mother was in a persistent vegetative state, and that we (the family) should cut off her oxygen and feeding tubes.
i told them that it was too soon to be saying that or making this diagnosis.
they had my family believing this.

re: Are you saying then that your thyroid problem is hereditary?
Iodine deficiency gives rise to goiter. Adding small amounts of iodine to table salt (known as iodized salt) helps prevent goitre. -

Why I joined this forum...
by UpAndAtom in<div>my very first visit to this website several years ago, was because i wanted to find out what the few surprises were going to be at the sydney 2003 convention.
(i have family that are jehovahs witnesses but i am not) .
it took a few months to sink in, but i gradually came to accept the real truth that these surprises are nothing of the sort.

It was only thanks to this forum and it's members that I fully appreciated just how important the printing business was to them. Ultimately however, it was the Jehovah's Witnesses themselves that showed their true colours. When I wasn't interested in their magazines, they were no longer interested in me. Pretty simple really. I had almost fogotten about Fallout Boy... thanks to Fleshybirdfodder & IP_SEC for reminding me. ha ha. However, the pun is a double-whammy for anyone that recognises the man in the photo.

It took a few months to sink in, but I gradually came to accept the “real truth” that these surprises are nothing of the sort. There is nothing surprising, shocking and in most cases, nothing new at all.
Here’s some things that have stuck in my mind these past few years.
They are a publishing company.
Their members are called publishers.
Non-publishers aspire to become publishers.
They have territories and quotas.
Members are kept very busy attending meetings to read books and magazines.
Without regular printing of magazines, the members would have nothing to do.
They perform no charity work of any kind. You can only contact them to arrange for a sales person to contact you regarding the possibility of becoming a sales person yourself.
Detailed statistics are kept on all areas relating to business. The number of people fed, clothed, or helped in any material way is not kept. It has no bearing on the business at all.
Members learn how to sell magazines and their stories.
I was surprised to hear at a baptism that new members must pledge allegiance to Jehovah AND the publishing company. Without doing both, you cannot get baptised.
Initially, they do not introduce themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses when at the door, but instead engage in some kind of banter inside the latest issue.

Concatenate each symbol of the Roman numerals (excluding M=1000) D C L X V I = 666
Is also equal to the sum of the squares of the first 7 primes.
2^2 + 3^2 + 5^2 + 7^2 + 11^2 + 13^2 + 17^2 = 666
Consider the following "sequence" of digits both forwards and then backwards:
1+2+3+4+567+89 == 666
or
123+456+78+9 = 666
or
9+87+6+543+21 = 666
"The Golden Ratio" = -2sin(666)
or
"The Golden Ratio" = -2cos(6 * 6 * 6)
... and there are so many others, but they start getting complicated. The Golden Ratio is probably the most interesting to me personally. Wasn't there something about this and the Pyramids in the early history of the WatchTower/Bible Students?
The beast is a mathematician. You can fear this beast like you feared your final year maths exam! ha ha.
