She might have had severe mental illness, but I think there are important questions that need to be asked.
When I first started going to a shrink, some Elders advised me to be careful of pychiatrists because they could poison or warp my thinking. They advised me to put my burden on Jehover's hands... what if she got the same advice they gave me?
Was she on treatment? If any, what kind of treatment? If not, why?

She does not look happy. Postpartum depression is very common, around 80% can suffer from it, sometimes form the moment they deliver. Less common is post partum psychosis, which is very dangerous and what the mother in question appeared to be suffering. Add to that the reports that she had previous mental illness.
I wonder if being a JW had something to do with her previous condition.
If her mother was a devout Jehovah's Witness, that might help explain things. This woman had an out-of-wedlock child, was living with a man......those are some serious offenses in the congregation.
It makes me wonder if maybe she thought the baby was going to die soon at Armageddon anyway. Maybe she thought she was doing the baby a favor by not letting it live to see Jehover's wrath? Just a thought.

On top of my head, is she still a JW in good standing or is she DFed or DAed? Would the fear of seeing her child being destroyed at Armageddon be the prime motivator for killing the baby along with the fear of demon possession because she's no longer inside the "truth" plus her mental instabilty combined?
