Is anyone following the bird flu reports? The government in Britain are officially preparing for 50,000 deaths in Britain and unofficially 750,000.

We have ordered vaccines but we are low down on the list for vaccines in Europe because our government placed the order late. 2.5 million vaccines have been specially reserved for key workers ie hospital staff and doctors.

We might not get it this winter but next winter its really quite likely according to the experts.

Bit worrying. Anyone heard anything to contradict such reports.

Yes I have been following the bird flu reports. Let's hope it doesn't get here, but if it does it'll be devastating, we just never seem prepared for anything in this country

I know they have found one British parrot carrying the deadly H5N1 strain, the parrot is deceased though and they are conducting tests on it. The parrot originated from South America and was imported into Britian.

I think its due time for a epidemic anyway, not that its a good thing but we are overdue for the next big killer flu. It will probably come soon and people are going to die thats what has always occured throughout history, a natural cycle of life, death, and survival.

All I can think of are the Stephen King novels that dealt with flu epidemics, the Stand being the most popular. Talk about a possible prophet, scares the heck out of me.

    Crumpet! How are you!?

I'm totally chilled and unimpressed with the bird flu panic and mass hysteria.

The papers are making a fortune on getting people into a total panic about this.

There is a virus that is killing out frogs all over the world at the moment.

Where is the frog flu hysteria?

The method of transmission does not so far exist in this country. Also, if it does mutate into a human virus, it may be so mild that it will be on a par of 'normal' flu.

Myself, I'll panic when there's reason to panic. Certainly NOT now.
