A most recent side article (looking for it) counseled on the necessity of chaperones even showing a threesome on a picnic, obviously a couple with a chaperone.
Yes, it is officially still in place. But as long as they aren't unchaperoned overnight, they can't be DF'd per the elders manual.

Reminds me of that ridiculous tv Documentary about JW,s a while back (set in Oxford i believe?)with that nutter being bought out a cup of tea by his Pioneer Girlfriend while he sat in his Car !(Because they couldnt be in the house alone etc etc)

HillBilly has a valid point. With many JW 'courting' couples having sex before marriage anyway, surely chaperones are a good way to experiment by having a threesome. It might work for some anyway....

Fleaman I remember that channel 4 documentary well. I watched it over and over whilst trying to get reinstated about 8 years ago. The girl was a dance instructor - south american or portugese if I remember rightly.
The chaperone thign was taken very seriously by my parents. I remember being dragged out of bed one night when I was about 7. There was a blizard outdoors and my dad had to take a bible study (female) home from our house. I had to go as chaperone. I also remember other occassions where I had to accompany my dad to take elderly sisters home! Ridiculous!

Lad..not a 3 way with the chaperone... but the "shadow" a beer, or hot dog or hooker or whatever so they will leave you alone with your babe.

Where I lived you didn't have to be married to be a chaparone, just a JW in good standing. I was used as one but you didn't have to date anybody to need one; you could never be alone with anybody of the opposite sex without somebody thinking something about it so if that was the case you always had to have a third person present.
Chaperones were a big deal in Brooklyn as well.
It became really difficult when you are planning a wedding and life together when you needed to coordinate your schedule with not only your intended, but a 3rd party.
We had to have a 3rd party go with us to the travel agent to book our honeymoon.
I guess I could have taken her under a desk or something because obviously we had no self control.
