I was going through a box of stuff from my Bethel daze and found tucked away amongst some personal papers a mint condition 1918 edition of a WTBS publication "The Revelation."
Remember the Commentary on James book? This does the same thing but with Revelations and includes explanations as to the signs and symbols according to the belief at the time. There is advertising on the last pages for Russell's sermons and also the '6 volume' Studies in the Scriptures. This is back when the headquarters address was 13-15 Hicks street in Brooklyn.
It is an extremely cool discovery that I had forgotten completely about owning. Hey Quotes you want me to scan it for you. heh heh heh
Considering the time and activity going on in 1918 this book is about 5" tall and about 2" wide (easy to conceal).
No real reason for posting this but if someone is interested in any particular verse and it's explanation from back then I'd be happy to type/scan that page.
I am just a little excited to be in possession of something this old that is in extremely good condition.

Wow. That's quite the find! After scanning it and sending the PDF file to me, I'm sure that would fetch a mint on eBay!

    Hey Uzzah! That is exciting!

Would you mind posting what it interprets for the scripture mentioning 144,000? (Naturally I can't remember the scripture... oops!)

    Thanx a zillion! Miss Peaches

The Revelation = The Finished Mystery (Volume VII, Studies in the Scriptures)?

Well upon closer examination it isn't completely mint. It appears that one section was removed and then it was rebound (let the conspiracy theories fly.) From page 77 (rev 6:3) through to page 92 (Rev 8:3) has been removed. So Rev 7 which discusses the 144,00 is missing.
This is not Volume 7 but that would be an amazing find! This is strictly The Revleation (According to the Sinaitic text) - "With explanatory notes and comments"
Uzzah - still excited just not as much as an hour ago

    Here's the book:

Looks like quite a rarity. (BTW, while the Sinaitic text is of a superior text type for most of the NT, its text of Revelation is aberrant and inferior to some later witnesses).

Worth quite a small fortune if you put it on eBay !

Wow thanks for that link Leolaia. The one I have is the leather bound version. I had no idea it would be worth THAT much. (I sound like one of those people from antique roadshow).

Now do I keep it as a keepsake or sell it and make some $$ from my slavery years? hmmm Likely hold on to it for a while in my collection, until I hear an offer I can't refuse.

So I'm so curious why the Society put out another commentary on Revelation just a year after the Finished Mystery. Is there anything "new" in that book? Does it cover the same verses as the FM but offer different interpretations? Was it rushed out as a substitute for the FM at the time of the 1918 trial?

And why have I never heard this book discussed before?

I don't believe it ever replaced the "Finished Mystery" book , being the "FM" book was reprinted up to 1927. Whereas the "Revelation" book was briefly printed in 1918 only. Here's a tiny tibit I found in the Watchtower Reprints (1919) on page 6273: "REVELATION" - SINAITIC READING - We now have in stock a vest pocket edition of the Book of Revelation, according to the Sinaitic Manuscript. We believe the friends will be much pleased with this little volume, in convenient form, and meetin quite fully the requirement of all who desire to know the meaning of this wonderful portion of the divine Word. Not only is the accurate rendering of the ancient Sinaitic Manuscript given, with headings and subheadings in bold-face type for convenient location of passages, but explanatory notes and comments are included, with many illustrations. The book contains 200 pages, same size as the Vest Pocket Manna.Full black leather, gold edges, 70 cent postpaid. Cloth, red edges, 35 cent."
