As an active witness I have never thought I would never die and live right on into the New System. I have always Keep it in the front of my mind though. I know it will come and when it does I want to be ready.
Do you see the contradiction here?
First you never thought you would live into the New System. But then you say you know it will come and you want to be ready.
If you aren't going to live to see the New System, how can you be ready for it?
The hope started to die in the '90s. In 1991 a JW friend of mine for 13 years, I was his best friend, was engaged, and we sat in his driveway and talked about the difficulties of being married with the tribulation and persecution being so near.
How often does anyone talk about that now?
When the Cold War raged, and the UN strong-armed ideas, and there were all kinds of problems, the Watchtower and Awake had something to chew on. 9/11 was bad, Katrina was bad, but they turned into positives. The human spirit wins out. Gods on the other hand remain quiet.
Many years back, an elder from our KH told me that, in spite of the fact that nobody knows the day or the hour, he was convinced that Jehovah would not let this current system of things continue as it is past the year 2000. When 2000 came and went, he was still convinced that he would live to see the big A, he just humbly admitted that it is up to Jehovah and that he should bot guess. I know that this is the attitude of many people at the KH where I used to go.

If the WT leaders would allow JW's to put their faith in Jesus instead of a Governing Body you would be set free from their lies. I suggest a thorough examination of the following scripture which may help you realise that we are all sinners and our bodies are going to deteriorate and die. And just as it is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment— 28 so also the Messiah, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. Heb 9:27-28

Their hope IS fading. They ARE spiritually starved. Yet will they leave? No!! They have become to complacint - they've been spiritually spoon fed everything they know & most will stick to it like flies to sh*t - no matter what. It's very sad as they no nothing else & they don't know of the true freedom of being released from such a life without guilt.
I used to pity them, but no more - we all choose to be where we are one way or another.
