Aren't you glad that you don't have to follow all the silly rules of the Organization? It is comforting to know that we don't have to feel guilty anymore because we just aren't doing enough. We NEVER did anything right enough. We always fell short of a goal. If we fulfilled a goal, we had to make yet another one or we weren't giving our best to Jehovah and the Organization. if we had an illness, we were made to feel that we didn't appreciate all that Jehovah has done for us because we needed to stay home in pain. No, we HAD to be at all the meetings. Never mind if you were going through cancer treatments or were physically exhausted or even mentally ill-----you had to always "do more".......I am so glad I'm out of this cult!

It seems to me that jws have been required to substitute their own idea of self in favor of the institutional idea of self presented by WTBTS. It's tough enough questioning one's own idea of self, but to challenge an institutionized idea of self puts the weight of the whole organization against you. Freedom from "self" as held by the individual is freedom from suffering. Freedom from "self" as defined by WTBTS, or any institutionalized ideas, gives you liberty to seek true freedom.

Everyday, I realize how bad off I was....how bad my mind had been controlled. Like, yesterday, it was someone's birthday, and I was thinking that I couldn't say "happy birthday". Little stuff like saying "bless you" when someone sneezes, I have to relearn to say. So, many things were taken away from me. I can say "yes, I think that's a nice halloween outfit". At times, It is a little disconcerting. I wonder if I shake my head noticeably when I saying to myself "it's ok".
The bOrg really had me going! <sheesh> OMG.....OMG! I said OMG!

That was the reason I quit back in 1973. Haven't been in service since.

I don't know, Min. Last week my family and I sat around the table and made ghosts. The kids got paint on their feet and made footprints, then we decorated them with eyes and little pumpkins and what not.
This week we downloaded and printed a skeleton kit. Then we cut them out, stuck them together with pins, and accessorized them with glasses, googly eyes and such.
We've been "doing more" since we got out of the cult. I like "doing more"!
Incidentally, while we were doing our skeletons, I pointed out to Zach that if we were still JW's, we would just be getting home from field service about now.
He replied, "What's 'field service'?"
I couldn't have been happier!
Good thread!

I know a sister who has cancer that is worse than yours, her house just burned down, her car broke down, she's blind in one eye and legally blind in the other. She's still on the regular pioneer list. You could pioneer, too if you were willing to put forth the effort!!! That is your problem, you aren't willing to put for the effort!
Don't you know that's why all of us deadbeats are here posting on JWD? We aren't willing to put forth the effort!
I wanted to slap my sister everytime she told me that I could get back to the meetings if I was just willing to put for the effort. She always said it in the most condescending way, too. She thinks the only reason I have left the org is because it's the easy way out, the path of least resistance.
