Last Summer we stopped at a candy store called "The Old Fashioned Candy Store" It was neat, every type of candy made lined the shelves in jars. There was an old man getting the candy for you, weighing it on an old scale and ringing it up on and old cash register. The only thing that wasn't old fashioned about it was the price. I was dissapointed, it was too expensive but fun.

Plummet...your story reminded me when we used to go out in service in unassigned territory. In one area was an Amish community and we would stop at their community store to buy trail mix and home made treats. It was like stepping back in time a hundred years....until you saw the prices Them Amish were mighty proud of their homemade goodies.

Hey L,
Are you pasting from another app? The forum software doesn't care much for pastes from anything fancy, like Word. Paste it into Notepad, then copy that and paste it into the forum.
Hope it works, I wanna hear the rest!

When I was in Elementary School (I’m 36—do the math) there was a little store called “Mary’s” that was on the way home from school. Once in a while, when my dad would pick us up, we would get to go into Mary’s. Now you youngsters do not remember going into stores and seeing rows of glass jars filled with every type of penny candy imaginable! I will tell you, you could take a dime or a quarter in with you and come back out with a little brown paper sack full of candy. Lemonheads, candy necklaces, atomic fireballs, you name it, and you would have change!!!!
Mary had a dirty little secret, though. She was stealing pennies from all the kids. She would always cheat you out of a penny. This might not seem like a big deal, but it was. She was taking advantage of children, who at that time, were directed not to question authority or be disrespectful of adults. So we would stand there, counting our change, and look at her. She would glare at you from behind the counter, daring you to challenge her.
Finally you would just resign yourself to getting ripped off. After all, you had a bagful of candy, right? But it didn’t feel very good, so you just learned to ignore that bad feeling and focus on your candy.
We didn’t dare tell our parents; what if they got mad at us for getting ripped off??? Even worse, what if they forbid us from going there again??!?!? Where would we ever get candy again?!?!? Holy Crap!
As time would have it, my parents found out that we had been getting ripped off, and went in to confront her about it. Of course they didn’t blame us; we had been doing as we were taught. Boy did they let her have it! We were still sad knowing we had lost the ‘only’ source of candy in town. My dad, great guy that he is, found another little store about 4 blocks away and we started going there.
Now granted, we didn’t get to go as often but it was just fine. We never got ripped off at the Mattie St. Grocery.
Sometimes I feel like the JWs are in the same trap as we were. They know they are getting ripped off, and “Mary” knows full well what she is doing, but they don’t have it in themselves to confront “Mary.” Worse yet, they think we will be mad at them when they finally wake up. Of course this is not true—we know who the guilty party is here—the WBTS and the FDS. They have convinced their members that they are the only candy store in town, and if they leave they will never get candy again!
If you are one of the people being ripped off by “Mary,” you should know that there are other candy stores in town that will not leave you feeling conflicted. There are people available to help you confront “Mary.” All you have to do is tell someone that your candy is not as sweet as you thought it would be.
