Actually, when I see one hanging around the house and I read the title, it always make me laugh. They always sound so silly, but trying hard to be serious. And just by reading a title, you can guess the kind of garbage they will rehash again...lol

I thought the same. Then a friend came to me and explained that to read the Awake and Watchtower you could compare it with scripture..then go tell a JW about it. You can challenge it's truthfulness.

As we all know the watchtower's bible is off(well most of us), then take it and go to 1 John 5:1...where it says..."Everyone believing that Jesus Christ has been born from God, and everyone who loves the one that caused to be born loves him who has been born from that one..."(1 John5 :1)

Meaning that everyone who believes in Christ is from God. Everyone...meaning all...are adopted by God

It's apparent you're not keeping pace with Jehovah's Mighty Flaming Chariot there, Rev.

1 John 5:1...where it says..."Everyone believing that Jesus Christ has been born from God, and everyone who loves the one that caused to be born loves him who has been born from that one..."(1 John5 :1)

The 2005 Edition of the New World Translation just released contains some New Light on this verse:

1 John 5:1 "Everyone [obeying the faithful and discreet slave and] believing that Jesus Christ...."

Ah, brackets. Is there anything they CAN'T fix? Typographical duct tape.

    Jez wrote:
"Hundreds of supplementary publications written by unnamed authors that can hide behind the Watchtower and Bible Tract Society and say anything without referencing it."
I used to preach to my High School History teacher (bless his heart--a dear man) and he'd read the wt pubs I gave him but his comment in the end was always: "None of these publications have a bibliograpy. There's no way to check any of their references. It's hard to take them seriously." I wish I'd listened to what he was saying. Would've saved me a lot of heartache.

I totally agree with what many have said.

They are so frikin' purile... no substance... an easily dismantlable manipulative technique... fallacious argumentation... arghhh... I can't believe I didn't notice until I got myself an education.

As has been said, it's almost impossible to even flick through them without your teeth being put on edge.

There IS a compulsion to flick through the ones my mum always palms me when I leave (after a visit)... but my never-a-JW fiancé loathes them and tends to destroy them before I succumb to something that will just vex me.

    Bless...

I may be speaking prophetically. It would be more correct to say at this point, "They did not do this YET."

It is astonishing that so much paper (trees) is wasted every month to publish all this useless tripe. However it is once you see the manipulations in the WT the lying mind control tactics that you get to hate these publications. They often are so stupid they are felt as insults to human intelligence. As if everything is nothing but a collection of disgusting lies.

For example " because the Holy Spirit today doesn't operate as in the past some (doctrinal) adjustments need to be occasionally made." WTF does that mean? THe Holy Spirit can no longer inspire the truth from the first try? And has to come back later to correct Itself? The truth they are trying to hide by calling the Holy Spirit inept is that they don't have it in the first place.

    Jez,

That has been my point as well! How frustrating he can't see it.

Does it bother some of you that those things (wt's) are lying about the house? That would put me over the edge I think. Actually if he leaves anything out I will leave out so much damning printouts & books it would make his head spin. One child claims that if any of that 'crap' is lying around they will either burn it or flush it! cheers to that.

Does anyone else remember hearing a few years back at a District Convention the claim that just by reading the Awake mags from cover to cover for a period of ?? years that it would be the equivelent of getting a 4 year college education?? It strikes me now that this was probably said to further enforce the "no higher education" plug....who needs one when they can read the Awake, right?? What a croc!!

I don't think that if you were to apply for a position that required some college education or a BA or Masters degree in some particular field and you wrote down instead that you'd been a faithful reader of the Awake for the past 5 years that they'd see that as good enough! LOL
