You did the right thing even though it's a tough decision to make. The vet told us when our elderly dog was facing her last days we would know when it was time when she had more bad days than good ones. Thankfully she died in her sleep and the day before she was happy and playing like a young pup. She was 17 in people years and the best dog our family ever had, it was very hard on my kids and they were all pretty much grown and gone. I really feel for you and yours.

    Thanks everyone.

Our oldest son had the dog who was our dog's mother. We took the pup for our youngest son, who was about 11 at the time. It's kind of the end of an era of "the boy and his dog". That boy is now 26 and about to be a father (in April).

She picked him when he went to pick his puppy out of the litter. She wouldn't leave his side so she was the choice. Her name was Jenny.

    Hi Mulan.

When we had to put my char- pei down, we had to leave her at the vet to do so. She stared at me and my wife when we left her like she knew it was it. I'll never forget that stare. I cried more than when my own dad died and missed her badly. We soon got another dog never thinking it would replace that feeling we had for her............but it really really helped. If your into getting another doggie....you'll see.

Damn....I got all teary eyed just typing this.

Big hugs to you and family

Mulan, I am sooo sorry. Sounds like there was a special connection. I do know how it feels. Just know that she is fine and content with all the love she received. We found that having a special place to commemorate our 4 legged friends helps alot (we rescue Rottweilers). A picture, collar, ashes, anything. A place to go to and talk with those special ones in our lives. She didn't just die, she has moved on, and yet keeps tabs on those she loved. Many ((((hugs))))).

I can certainly relate to this thread. I have had to put a few pets down myself and I know how hard it is. Gumby is right though, another one will heal the heart quickly. I have a cat that is 14 and I know that one day soon enough it is going to happen again and I hate it because I grow very fond of my pets. They are like your children and you know I think our pets grow very fond of their owners, especially if you show them love and affection on a regular basis. I think pets also hate their owners if the owner is abusive too. But I sure thank God for my litttle four legged creatures...Sorry Mulan about your dog...(hug and a kiss)

Sorry to hear, Mulan. Our dog died 7 years ago and I'm still reminded once a week about the good times we had.
