The society is struggling financially and cutting costs like most all of the major companies in the United States.

You can check in The Best of... WTS Finances for evidence that they are not struggling financially

What basis is there for thinking they are struggling financially? (Asking for money more often indicates they want more money, not that they don't already have some)

Another question : ---Will the WTS reimburse the brothers and sisters coming from all around who use their own money to help other brothers and sister who are hurricane victims? I don't think so! So where are the donations going that suppose to help the brothers and sisters? If the brothers and sisters can't pay to have their home rebuild because they don't have flood insurance. Will the WTS pay FROM the donations given for just such victims who are witnesses. Again..I don't think so! WTS depends on the hard work and man power of the KHs. WTS contributes nothing as far as I can see.

    Exactly!!

And on another note, the elders in the congregation affected have a lot of the responsibility for organizing the work. The elders higher up on the totem pole assign those lower down on the totem pole to do whatever the Society (or CO, or whoever) wants done. Doesn't matter if they have families that need attention, small children, wives that have had more than enough dealing with the tragedy, etc..... Excuse me, that's not what I call 'volunteer work'. And it's not performed by the WTS.

I didnt realize they were listed somewhere officially as a charity. Thats not honest when they will only fix JW's homes. To be listed as a charity one would think that they could donate to the wt and it go to anyone who needed it. Things are clearer to me now. The reason I insinuated they may be struggling financially is.

    • Dropping WT/AWake subscriptions
    • Going to all paperback books
    • A while back I heard the Presiding Overseer state that they were having to turn there WT sign out now instead of leaving it on all the time because they were hurting financially.

  • Wow. I had never heard this one.

It's part of the Advertising, though... When a business is struggling, do you really want to stop advertising? Especially when it's only electricity???

The history of the WTS shows clearly they will say anything to rake in the money, not pay taxes and hide their true net worth.

Panickattack, do you think the Catholic church is hurting financially? Being an older, large, established organization, they have some of the same problems that the WTBTS is just starting to feel now. Lots of assets (land, equipment) but not much liquidity. The cutbacks are symptoms of retrenchment. It may be true that new money is not flowing as it used to, but that does not mean that the WTBTS is not rich in assets.

Many, if not most, of the the churches who are helping with the disaster relief meet up and are assigned areas and/or specific homes. They don't seem to be picking and choosing only their own to help. I know this is the way it is for my Church, helping whomever they are asked to help. Just helping your own in times of need is not the Christian way.
