Look, I am in no way defending that person's behavior. But if I were to openly proclaim attitudes that are perceived by some people to be anti-Christian, I don't think I'd be so shocked to be treated the way you were in the grocery store.

Like I said, I don't condone that person's behavior. In fact, I despise it just as much as you do. But again, your shock at it reveals a fair lack of perceptual honesty on your part. A defiant attitude, IMO, would have been a much better suited reaction, considering you don't care to hide your religious orientation.

I've always just wanted to get into a situation like that so I could respond back.

"By golly you're right! Jesus does Love me!"

"Hallelujah! Can I get a witness" Hug the wack woman who brought up jesus while you were trying to buy a tasty animal sandwich.

Rinse, lather, repeat. But then again, I'm evil like that.

Hehehe, that would be funny. I'm not brave enough just yet. I've been pushing me inside for over 30 years. I'm finally blooming into the person I want to be. I don't want to be this pushed down woman anymore. I want to be ME. I want to express myself the way I feel good inside. Believe me, I know there will be more, and like AA told me last night, I can either "hide" me and dress the way everyone wants me to dress and not get attacked once in a while...but then I won't be happy, I'll feel trapped like I did as a Dub and be controlled...or I can ignore them, get use to it and go ahead and express myself the way I want and be happy for majority of the time. It's just a shame it has to be that way. Damned if you do Damned if you don't kind of way.

I hate what Daystar said. I hate even more that it's true. :-(

Sorry Wiflet, but freaks abound and they love to prove to any onlookers just how freaky they are. Clearly not all (or most, or even many) Christians are like this, but there's enough to make life interesting for you.

I personally think you went over the line when you had the horns surgically installed in your head. That's just BEGGING for comments...

(Love you just the way you are!)

"demonized" is the word that came to mind; then "lobotomized"

    LOL at Blondie!

Oh yeah, I failed to mention I was going in to have the tail added on as well this Friday.

Don't forget to pick up my pitchfork when you come home tonight...k? lol

personally i agree that what the woman did wasn't very loving in the way you describe. indeed the only people jesus judged were the religious, the people who thought they were better than everyone else, judging other people. from that perspective then what she did wasn't very christian. indeed jesus hung round with prostitutes, the tax collectors (contextually bad people), and such, treating them as human beings because he loved them. to do otherwise would not be chrit-like, it would not be christian.

personally i am a christian myself, but in no way see myself as religious. a religion is a set of beliefs, a ritualistic system, which must be followed rigidly. christianity is based on jesus, who says throughout the gospels that the whole law is summed up into "do unto others as you would have them do to you". he also says he came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. this is to say that jesus came not so that we would be religious and judge other people, but so that we could have a relationship with god, with jesus. jesus never said follow my philosophy, follow my religion, he said follow me. jesus came to give us "life in abundance", not be miserable religious people doing things because we fear god will strike us down.

in fairness i do not wish to judge the woman you came across. as with anyone she has many insecurities, and perhaps her faith is what gives her security. her expression of this appears very negative however. i'd just like to point out that to judge a faith by one person is not a very logical thing to do in itself. we are all human and make mistakes, and as such none of us are perfect. only jesus is, and from only him can you understand what faith truly means.

i wont be on this site very much so if you have any questions please email me at [email protected]. if you want to challenge anything i've said then by all means do. if what you seek is the truth, than your mind should be open. the problem is many have already closed theirs. even better would be to ask a church leader, someone who knows what they're talking about, who isn't religious but who knows what it is to be a christian. of course not all church leaders are great, otherwise every church would be a great success, but there are many good people around if you look. even better than that though would be to read the bible itself. the gospels are a great place to start because it's all about jesus and being the foundation of the faith he's certainly important.

i apologise if it seems like i've been preaching, that wasn't my intention, but i'm still learning too.

Yes, I agree. It's just hard sometimes to get there when you've been pushed down for over 30 years, not being "allowed' to be who you really are. I'll get there I feel one of these days. Once I've gotten a few of those situations under my belt.

No apologisies needed. I do appreciate your input as well. I think we are all learning. That's part of the joy...learning.

No kidding. The fact remains that if you walk into a room of hungry tigers with a chunk of beef hanging around your neck, don't complain to me when you get mauled.

That being said, I do think that the general populace has gotten more tolerant in the past couple of decades. My pendant, while not worn outwardly, only gets friendly inquisition when it is on occasion noticed. But I would expect it to raise the occasional eyebrow were I to wear it out in the open all the time.
