Wow you guys are great! Thanks for the support, I'll def. take your opnions and ideas into consideration! Forgot to mention though that my Grandpa is a Dubby and he brought my dad into the organization!! My grammy however isn't a witness. So you think I should get the truck title in my name? No way I would get baptized. I have a horrible relationship with my dad. Even though there is tension and he always tells me that he thinks I am just "going through the motions" of being a witness, we never say anything about it. Basically, he knows I don't like going. There was a HUGE party at the lake and I wanted to go get wasted, so I studied out of that little green baptism book for a week to make him happy and he let me go ( of course, I said I was going on a fishing trip with my worldly friend and his dad..he let me go regardless of "bad association") Anyways, I'll work with my mom to get that truck in my name, damnit! Any other opinions?

Study up on their view of gifts, so you can understand (if not agree with) his mindset. They think everlasting life is a gift from Jehovah, but they also think you have to do things for Jehovah to give it to you (work/pay for work, where's the gift?). So you have some things like that to overcome, but I think if you study his reasoning thoroughly you'll be able to challenge it in a way that he will understand.
How open is he to you asking doctrinal questions? I have a few foundational doctrine questions that no Witness can answer.

Hi Dub, and welcome.
I am sorry to hear that you are being pressured in this way. Your dad should know how serious a decision baptism is. Maybe he is getting desperate because you are almost 18 and not yet committed. A lot of parents of teenage kids in my old kh were a little like that. I really hope things do work out well for you.
Good luck

AuldSoul, I don't really talk to my dad about doctrinal questions or anything else for that matter since I really don't feel qualified to handle a heated debate. I mean, I would, but I don't want him to pose me a question and I just stand there dumbfounded, you know? Anyways, when 18 comes I'm gone and I'll be driving my truck whether he likes it or not.

There's nothing worse than not being able to feel free in discussing your feelings with your parents. There are way too many lousy parents out there, JW and non. What the heck is wrong with people who have to blackmail their kids into joining a cult?

I suppose you know that if you get baptised and leave the dubs you will be treated by them like an outcast so it's better not to get baptised since as I understand you don't like at all this religion. At least your mother is on your side.

Welcome dub, well gotta say you sound like you still need some growing up to do...
There was a HUGE party at the lake and I wanted to go get wasted,
hummm.... you totalled out the car....when you start paying for own insurance and being on your own instead of living with your parents, I can respect that dude.
So stop playing the poser with your dad, tell him the truth and stand your ground.
