2005 District Convention

Hi

Can someone tell me all I need to know about the 2005 District Convention?

Was there a drama? What were released?

Haven't been to a meeting in ages. You're probably wondering why I give a monkey's furry bottom then huh?

Well, my folks aren't aware of my truancy and i'm happy keeping it that way cos I would not hear the end of it if they did.

I would Loooooove to ask one of the local witnesses, but i would prefer to forgo the plastic smiles and the 144,000 questions that will follow my initial enquiry.

So the info would really really help.

I haven't attended a convention since about 7 years ago. there were some threads on the convention but no easy way to get to them until we get them until we get a really good search engine sorted - but hopefully someone else who posted on one of them will lead you there from there post history. I seem to remember lots of warnings about using the internet and something about keeping your eye simple but honestly that could apply to any of the many conventions I attended during my first 2 and a half decades of life!

More about myself huh?

Well, I'm a young witness who is working out what he wants to do with his religion at the moment. The luke-warm (occassionally arctic chilled) love bestowed upon me by the local cong coupled with recent unresolved discrepancies from reading the Awake compelled me to seek secular sources of information for the TRUTH or what isn't. Ironic how reading the Awake opened my eyes to a problem with Witness philosophy.

So I've ceased all normal Witness functions, and have played the fading technique (i didn't even know there was a name for this strategy until reading about it on another thread). Can't allow them to disfellowship the incovenience that I've become cos I love my folks dearly and I don't want to see them hurt. I'm at uni so i live away from my folks.

The drama was to confuse the R&F. It recommends that witnesses not go to college (again). It is dangerous and besides, what more reward should one have than to spend our time and uneducated talents handing out magazines and begging for "donations".

One of the releases was a book entitled "The Bible, What It Really Teaches" )or something like that).

And of course, the convention theme "Godly Obedience", obey the elders or else!

Very little of the drama is found in the Bible. It consists mostly of the imagination of the WTS.

Hi Miss_MG! I'm not overly concerned about people finding out about my skepticism. To them, doubts are a sign of a weak faith. And neither side is under the delusion that I'm a model Witness. No, what they must never find out is how I've been actively researching and ascertaining the legitimacy of WTS methods and the honesty of WTS teachings: actions which can more readily be taken as the first steps to apostacy.

They will never have the luxury of disfellowshipping me. I will choose when and how, should I want to formally sever ties.

Hi blondie! I know what you mean, having read about this year's DC drama. I appreciate creativity, but not when the skill is abused to propagate their personal opinion.

Welcome Inquisitor, carry on studying the WTS history in your own privacy and no one will ever find out, there are lots of good sites on the internet covering all jw aspects. You will find that they are systematic liars and distorters of the truth not its protectors and propagators as they claim.

At the conventions in the year 2005 they were trying to cajole the JW kids, to excel by giving up their education prospects as a desirable sacrifice for jehovah. That's after having messed up the lives of countless followers in the past with this same issue.
