Esther was not exemplary

I watched a documentary on the Discovery channel about Esther's life. I was reminded that--despite how many times I was told as a JW girl that Esther was a role model--here are the things she did:

    • Had sex with the king before she was even engaged to marry him. (according to the documentary--I don't remember that part)
    • Spent much of her time doing beauty regimens.
    • Married an unbeliever.
    • Participated in politics.
    • Concealed her ethnic background and religious beliefs.
    • Purposely got her husband and his friends drunk.
    • Only stood up for her fellow believers after being begged to by her dad and even then did so by a serious of manipulations.

If there were chat rooms back then, Esther probably would have visited them too. Exemplary indeed.

Seems like most of the Old Testament Bible characters who's stories are trotted out as examples to people today, were not really very moral from a Christian standpoint. They engaged in all kinds of behavior which would get you disfellowshipped and shunned as a witnoid especially, but we're supposed to ignore that part of the story and take to heart the fact that God loved them and favored them pretty much no matter what they did.

I've always had a lot of trouble with David especially...seemed like he was never personally punished for his misdeeds either. It was his family or the nation itself that suffered when he did something wrong.

Whilst many OT characters were not exemplary, they had God's favour because he forgave them when they repented.

That's a lesson that the wts have never learned, and probably never will

Esther also danced the for the king, being judged the best dancer out of the whole empire. One could wonder exactly how much clothing she kept on, was her clothing revealing, what kind of pagan music was being played, were pagan gods mentioned in it, what would moses have thought about it all?

What I find particularly funny is the spin the WTS put on Esther's manipulations.....she invited him to a few banquets in his honor to get him drunk and to gain his favor...then dropped the bomb that she's Jewish...I remember being told time and again this manipulation is an example of Esther recognizing her role as a lesser vessel (barf)....come on! The woman manipulated and lied her way to getting a very minimal concession from the king.

And what's the big whoop about the king issuing an edict allowing the Jews to defend themselves against those trying to kill them instead of revoking the execution order? That is like the WTS having one of their own marry Hitler (after sleeping w/him 1st), getting him drunk and sexing him up...then to say she's a JW...and them claiming victory when he says the concentration camp JWs are allowed to fight back when the Gestapo tries to kill them. It is such a ridiculous story.

A great example of someone quite simply sleeping her way to the top.

    Dirty slut

She is just one of a number of weirdos, nymphomaniacs, nutters and psychopaths who are viewed as examples by Jw,s.

I think i should start a new thread as to who is the most reprehensible of the "faithful men and women of old".

Toss up between Samson and David imo.

Though if we go by the Bibles real authenticity we may just as well ask who is worse ,..Darth vader or the Daleks?

according to celebated scholars, esther was a huge baalstreet boys fan. some pagan god's were mentioned in songs, for example the tune "what if baal was one of us"? special attention was put on not listening to songs like "sympathy for the molech" though.
