Probably some elders really care for brothers and sisters in the congregation, while other elders just do their job automatically like yes men... Probably you've know both kinds.
There is an elder phoning me once a month, very regularly, and I just don't know if it's because he cares for me, or because he has a boss that will question him on my whereabouts...
I was just wondering if he was a good loving elder, or just a yes man following orders...

It doesn't change much in my case. I'm the one who decides what I want to do, but still I wonder if some elders do really care....
I guess I should have qualified that. Who cares? The only good JW is an ex-JW. Even if the Elder is a sincerely kind (good) person, he will at some point be found out and forced to either fall in step with the doctrine, or fall away. And if he is a "good" elder, he will likely have at least some blood on his hands before he falls away, or dies, whichever comes first.
A few do and usually get dumped with all the cases in the congregation that require a man with a heart. They burn out.
But remember that the organization always comes first.

If my memory serves me well most of them are mechanical organisation men without genuine feelings, they act out of duty or a desire to impress their superiors.
While I believe that there ARE some genuinely "good" elders within the organization, some are there to stroke their egos. THIS, I know to be a fact, as far as one such elder is concerned. The "good" elders that I know, have all left the KH that I used to attend....and are not practising JW's anymore. They are the salt of the earth, and are genuinely, loving, kind and sincere people. How well do you know this elder JH????Could be that he is quite sincere.....

I think there are some good ones - two spring to my mind.....
LittleToe - he was an elder, adn while he never had any dealings with me at that time, I know the man - and he is damn fine one at that!
Also his Dad was an elder as we were growing up together. I always found him fair in his dealings with me as an errant kid, and spent a lot of time with him and his family. He was cool !
