The Christian brand of 'fundamentalist trouble'......

The point? I bet you that there will be no bombings to protest the disrespect done to the fundamentalists and their beliefs in Dover, Pa.

I`m no big fan of Islam either, Shining One. I agree with you that Islam spells trouble (and no, I`m not "ignorant", I know the common misconception that you should distinguish between Islam and "fundamentalist Islam"). But:
The point? I bet you that there will be no bombings to protest the disrespect done to the fundamentalists and their beliefs in Dover, Pa.
No, I bet they`re to busy blowing up abortion clinics.

"Of course, every faith has adherents who ape (literalism of scared texts/doctrines). The difference is, only in contemporary Islam is imitation mainstream...When imitation goes mainstream, most of us fail to explore our prejudices - or acknowledge that we have any.We believe that we're supposed to believe, and that's that."taken from The Trouble With Islam by Muslim author Irshad Manji
So here's the question guys (girls too lol), does ISLAM by itself spell trouble? Or is the literal interpretation of this scripture the cause of so much grief? I'll let you know when I finish the book. lol

It's the fundies, in the majority, that spells trouble. Doesn't matter which brand, although, in terms of religion, the Abrahamic ones have got a lot to answer for.

Hi Hellrider,
I see that you didn't compare the actual number of Islamist bombings in proportion to Christian bombings. Ah, but then there is little point since the Christian abortion bombings are what? Three of them and how many do we have daily in Baghdad? How many in Israel? How many in London? How many in the rest of the arab and non-arab world? Why in the world od you libs think that Islam is your ally against Christianity?

Steve, you are right about any kind of fundamentalist majority. This goes way beyond bombing or other terrorist acts. The most basic attack on a free society is in it's control over basic literacy. This goes for a fundamentalistic atheistic ideology (communisim) or a religious theocracy (fundamental Islamists, NeoCon Christians). A democratic form of governance insures avalibility of literature and scientific materials. Under any kind of ism, whether it be atheistic, Islamic or Christian, interpretation is at risk for conforming to the narrow view of the ruling powers.

thanks shining...
that's awesome! finally, a reason to say i am proud to be from PA. :o)
grouping all of islam together under one giant ethnocentric umbrella isnt doing anyone any good. besides, its the least of their concerns. they are killing each other after all. -

I am not a liberal. Never was, never will be. I have absolutely no respect for Islam. Not because of what they`re doing in Iraq, but because of what happened in Beslan.
I just don`t personally think a bunch of neurotics standing in a hall, waving their arms in the air, speaking in tounges, crying "hallelujah" and falling over (while their kids are standing next to them, scared witless), is that cool either. So sue me.

Hey hellrider,
If that is your exposure to Christianity, i.e. Pentacostalism, I suggest you try other churches...
