I would like to but cant, my JW family are visiting, but we usually have nice food and stuff. This year im going to listen to the radio and the xmas carols cos ive always loved them. I was speaking to a couple of sisters a few years ago and we all were saying how much we liked the lights and the atmosphere of christmas, when I look back it was quite a revealing conversation !!!!!!

We do xmas - felt a bit wierd the first year, but have enjoyed it ever since. I try not to go mad with pressies, but usually fail miserably !

Since meeting my wife, I've gone to the Carole Concert every year too. I thought I'd hate it when she suggested I joined them, but went so I could say "at least I tried it"... and absolutely loved it!!! Can't wait to go this year too!!!

Midnight Mass is kinda fun, and I am not even Xian. I view it as a sort of entertainment. (Apologies to those who think I am sacreligious. To the contrary though, I respect and enjoy it.)

There are talented people playing music and singing, everyone is friendly and in a great mood (which happens no other place/time for the rest of the year), and they retell an ancient wondrous story. It doesn't bother me one bit. For that hour, I spend the time in childish wonderment, pondering what it would be like if the story was true. It's fun.

We do Christmas every year. I have two little munchkins and my oldest is almost 5 this year and thats ALL he will think about right now! LOL. We have our own "fake" tree that we put up after Thanksgiving and my son does the decorating. He puts all the lights up and the ornaments on the tree. I just love watching his enthusiasm...I never had that opportunity when I was a child. So, I think its good for my kids to have fun and celebrate holidays. There is really no religious attachment to this holiday for me either we don't go to Mass we don't really go to any church to be honest. But being with my husband for the past eight years the holidays has taught me that its all about who you are with not what you get for presents. I really enjoy the holiday season it goes by way to fast in my opinion. And this year is going to be extra special for us because we are moving into our new home at the end of this month! So we get to celebrate the holidays in a brand new home this year with all our friends and family. What more could one ask for?

Last year was our first - just a little tree, no lights etc. We are not Df'd yet, so trying to keep a low profile due to a few family still in the borg.

We overdid the presents for the g-kids, so this year we will cut back to a reasonable amount of gifts and prob emphasize the spiritual side of it more. We are already listening to Christmas music. Dean Martin is my favorite.

I'm glad to hear Christmas was a little weird for some of you when you first started! I am kind of coming around to this idea, but I'm also pretty staunch in not doing ANYTHING again that doesn't feel right to me. whether that be religion, holidays, or voting (just some examples). I too have kids, who have never celebrated so I would like to try it for them. My oldest is 7 and I think it may bother her conscience at first. She's very into doing what pleases god still - the JW version on pleasing! We'll probably work into it slowly....this has been a great thread for me to read!

That is why we did it last year - for the kids. We raise our grandkids. We are 50 and 48, so we have no real need to do xmas ourselves after a lifetime of not doing it.

Wifey says that she wants to make sure the kids don't have the 'cloud over thier heads' that we had. Having to be excused from the classroom during parties, not saluting the flag, etc.

They will make thier own minds up as time goes on abour how to serve God, etc. Our view is that the WTBTS never told us much that wasn't lies, so why accept thier position on holidays. Besides the kids all love Jesus and know that it is done to honor Him.

It was a big hurdle. For me, it finally allowed me to just say the hell with the WTS. Sometime in the future we may not celebrate this holiday, but the choice will be made based on facts and opinions we formed, not the cult of JW's. It was a big jump to freedom for us.

Wishing you well on this one.

Why, YES, of course we do Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 19 years of Borgdom, wherein my kids, and ourselves, missed out on such happy family gatherings and celebration, we have made up for it - or at least tried to - by celebrating it every year since (this will be our third)! Some may feel Christmas is tacky or commercial or whatever, but we don't care! We LOVE it and make a BIG deal out of it. I just wish it was Christmas every day. People really do tend to be so much nicer, on the whole, at that time of year!

My younger JW daughter, Stephanie, moved back home a couple of months ago and we told her that we'd be celebrating it. Also, a week before Christmas it's my birthday, and we'll be celebrating that, too. The Christmas tree will get centre stage viewing and I hope as many JWs as possible see it! It goes right in the front room window and we put a figure of Santa outside the front door, also! Would you believe, Stephanie even asked if we would be getting her a present! She said she won't be getting us anything but that we can get her something GOOD!!!!!!!!!

I just absolutely love the Christmas period. I love the pretty decorations, the trees, the music, the air, the films on television (such as Scrooge, with Alaister Sim) - EVERYTHING!

I do, for the tradition, the family atmosphere, the love, the joy, the music. I missed it all growing up. I love it now, weather hannukah, X-mas, solstice, or whatnot.

When I was living with my ex, I even put up this big celtic cross in our living room wall, just for fun! My JW parents didn't say a word when they saw it.
