Does the WTBTS surf here? Question ANSWERED!

    Many have pondered the question…

"Does the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society read what they themselves have labeled "apostate", whether it be books, or web sites?"

The answer to this question could be verified by a future "whistleblower", who perhaps worked in the Watchtower's basement, but there is already enough proof for a definitive answer.

We will examine the question regarding the Watchtower's "surfing habits" by means of proof as found in the Awake of August 8, 2001. This article is currently being "placed" (sold) from door to door this month. I know, I 'sold' some.

On page 7 we find these paragraphs beneath a picture of a miserable looking guy surfing the iNet in ramshackle surroundings… (the Watchtower's basement no doubt)

When teens surf the Net for music, they can happen upon links to sites for downloading hate music. Such music is usually loud and violent, with lyrics expressing strong racist messages. These Web sites, in turn, provide links to newsgroups, chat rooms, or other Web sites that promote hate.

Some hate Web sites offer special sections containing games and activities for young people. One neo-Nazi Web site attempts to use the Bible to justify racism and anti-Semitism. The group has also created a page that offers crossword puzzles with racist comments. It's purpose? "To help the young members of the white race understand our fight".

Now the questions is raised, How did the Watchtower get this information, and with such precision?

Some hate Web sites… seems the Watchtower has examined more than one.

One neo-Nazi Web site attempts to use the Bible… OH, I guess they visited this one as part of their Bible study.

The group has also created a page that offers… and they examine ALL the pages, to make absolutely sure that it's 'bad'. I wonder if this is where the Watchtower got the idea to put crossword puzzles in the AWAKE?

It's purpose?… and they just gotta make sure they read the whole PURPOSE so as to get it all clear in mind.

Seems to me, the only REAL question is "Did the Watchtower's surfin boyz click on VISIT THE SPONSOR?

Now, if the Watchtower can visit "Hate Groups" and drink up their Web sites, -sites which have nothing to say about the Watchtower- then what about the proliferating number of sites that call the Watchtower and her illustrious leaders MAD, and have so very much to say about the "Mother Organization"? … Sites which use their copyrighted material?

I don't think the jury needs to stay out for long, …do you?

Add to this, the numerous Watchtower attempts made to take legal action against those who have put up material like the "Pay Attention" book, or others. How does the WTBTS know what is on the iNet, … Hmmmm?

    Nuff said!

As far as "apostate" books are concerned, there has already been posts made by many that testify to the fact that there is a copy of Crisis of Conscience in the library at New York headquarters, right beside Apocalypse delayed and the others.

I don't know where to get the link, (I am sure it's on my hard drive) but there is a old letter by one of the authors of either Apocalypse Delayed or The Gentile Times Re-considered, and it's addressed to Milton Hensmell.  The letter "calls him out" and basically says that he's a liar, and the writer makes reference to court documents. Apparently, the WTBTS attempted to take legal action against the author in court, thus PROVING that they have it and read it.

Perhaps others have more, but I am confident that this puts the question to bed.

I wonder though, who does the surfing? I mean, eventually, the "brothers" chosen to work for the "Apostate Literature Reading Dept." must eventually get their "fill" of information, and then what? Quit?

[B]There must be bodies piling up somewhere.[B] What's your opinion?

I think you're making an enormous leap. The kind of information cited is readily available without actually surfing yourself.

    Next AWAKE article:

    Pornography on the Internet

Many people surf the internet today. But besides the many benefits, there are hidden dangers, such as Satan's tool, pornography.

Some sites, such as www.poopsex.com deal with disgusting fetishes, and for only $9.99 a month you can join on satans debauchery. A true christian would never click on the link of free previews and download such images to his or her harddrive under the heading 'Theocratic Study material' to hide it from fellow governing body..i mean fellow brothers.

I am surprised, really, that the WTBTS hasn't set up a section on their site where they give advice on movies. You know, a kind of Watchtower rating service.

The GB could go on a blast Friday night and see a few flicks, to see if they are suitable for the rank & file.

    The reviews could go

"Debbie Does Dallas" -NOT SUITABLE FOR JW's, includes scenes of gross sex perversions, multiple parti intercourse, and then there's that scene in the shower.... BAD BAD BAD. Thumbs down!

In the background there could be a picture of Sydlik pulling up his zipper.

    Hi BibleExaminer,

In your first quote from the Awake! magazine, is the author quoting someone else's
writing? If so, do they give the proper reference?

I ask this because I did a web search for the quoted phrase, "The purpose for making this
page is to help the young members of the white race understand our fight"

I found a page containing this sentence at:
    < http://www.media-awareness.ca/eng/issues/internet/safety/hate/recruit.htm>;

which also contains the material from the Awake! verbatim!!!!!!
    See footnote below.

    Has plagiarism occurred?

I also found the sentence at the web sites:

    http://www.media-awareness.ca/eng/issues/internet/resource/salon.htm
    http://www.adl.org/special_reports/hate_on_www/www_wcotc.html
    http://www.adl.org/poisoning_web/wcotc.html
    http://www.tau.ac.il/Anti-Semitism/asw98-9/usa.html

In this page, the word "fight" is replaced with the word "plight"
    http://www.cnn.com/US/9907/07/hate.groups/

Footnote: So there is no mistake, here again are the quoted sentences
which also appear at the first website that I mention above.

When kids are surfing the Net for music, they can happen upon links to sites
selling hate music, or offering it free for downloading. Hate music is usually
loud and violent, with lyrics expressing strong racist messages. Web sites selling
hate music often provide links to brochures, pamphlets, newsgroups, chat rooms
    or web sites promoting hate.

Some hate sites offer special sections for kids containing games and activities.
A dramatic example is the "Creativity for Kids" section of the neo-Nazi World
Church of the Creator web site, a site that uses the Bible to justify racism and
anti-Semitism. They've created a web site called "Creativity for Kids". This
site offers, for instance, crossword puzzles with racist content. Its purpose?
"To help the young members of the white race understand our fight."

Autocratic leader types never like to put their stamp of approval on anything, just in case they can use it against the hapless devotees in the future - no clear criteria for determining right and wrong means that everything is potentially wrong. Whether or not it is right or wrong depends on the leader's mood at some future date. Nothing gives such leader types the shits more than producing evidence that they'd once said that the now questionable activity was okay.

I'd have to agree with Pork Chop (haha) that you're making an enormous leap. Like he/she said, the information in the quote you cited is available without having to actually visit such sites personally.

The Society has no interest in sites of those sorts. Mentioning them only serves to give further reasons to stay away from the internet for paranoid Witnesses.

I do believe though, and I think there is sufficient evidence that they have people reading websites such as this one, and other independent ones, "apostate" books and also loyal JW sites.

While this is hypocritical, it is nonetheless a smart thing for any organization of this sort to do. Being aware about what information is available publically regarding your group and how your own or former members are thinking and what they are saying is important to their survival strategy.

Well, this I know first hand, that there is a Reading Dept. At the Canadian Branch Office. I have been there and seen it. Met the Bro's wo are assigned to read every single magazine on the market.

    Bar Playboy.

I have also been through the Computer Dept. and seen what's available to them. Talked with the Bro's there too.

And this is the Canadian Branch only. SO there's no doubt in my mind what goes on in New York.

the quote is attributed to the Economist just before the 2 paragraphs quoted by BE. it is not clear whether the substance of these 2 paragraphs are taken from the Economist or not. In fact, it is not absolutely clear whether the quote at the end is too but as is pointed out, this information is readily available from lots of sources.

even your conclusions about what happens at the Reading Dept stretch the imagination a tad.

I am willing to believe that they DO read the internet sites, particularly the ones that denounce themselves. Just like the mafia, they must keep their "friends" close, and keep their ENEMIES even CLOSER!

If you re-read the Nov 99 KM article about the internet, you will see that they have been shutting down, and suggesting that OTHERS shut down, web sites about them regardless of whether the content is pro WTS or not. They claim that THEY and THEY ALONE have the right and wherewithall to put anything about the Society online. However, they do stupid things like post the OLD light and the NEW light on the "generation" on the same site. Not sure thats still like that, but as far as accuracy is concerned, or truth or relevance...they dont want anybody else to do it. Big Brother II
