Thanks for bringing this back to the top, friendorfoe. It was nice to re-read the posts from Jon. Brought back some very nice memories... However I transgress....
The first year that I was inactive, I received sheparding calls probably every 3 mths or so. One elder was the brother of the book study group I was supposed to be in (I never attended) and he often brought another elder or up-and-coming MS.
At this stage I didn't want to be involved with the JWs anymore, but I was polite and let them say their speel. I would listen and nod at the appropriate places. I think they have now realised that visiting me is a waste of time. Haven't had a visit for almost a year (thank goodness).
If they called again, I doubt I would let them in. I would just say I was busy, or on my way out and didn't have anything I wanted to discuss with them, and leave it at that.

We have a HUGE (about 30 tall inches at the shoulder) tough intact male German Shepherd. The elders are terrified of him. And the one occasion a rank and file Dubs came over, she would not come all the way down the stairs to my door.
The last time an elder came to my door was only to get money to renew my magazine subscriptions. -

I used to enjoy the sheparding calls while I was still in. But these days I have no interest in letting anyone inside for these types of visits.
First of all I am insulted they are counting their time with me. I hate the whole concept of 'counting time'. And second, I don't owe any of them an explanation for my abscence.
I just tell them that I am taking a break for undisclosed reasons and I can't comment on when I will be back.
"But thanks for coming by and have a nice day guys"
(and off to the coffee shop they go to discuss the visit with the others)

Last time they showed up at my door, my hubby & I were having an argument. When I opened the door, had that Alice-Cooper look going on. They asked if everything was okay and I told them "no, i'm being punished by my husband for not being submissive enough sexually, so now would not be the best time to talk", and shut the door. they have not been back since.

I have been DFed for 13 years and have lived in 3 congregations territories during that time. In each case, witnesses have come to my house in the witness work and I have, in each case, told them my status.
I have received no shepherding calls or offers thereof.
I always enjoy a good conversation that is based on facts. But I haven't been offered the opportunity thus far.

I’d love to see JW’s at my door every day. I have had 1 uninvited call since I walked away in 1974. That came after I had not surfaced at any group function in 10 years. I gave the 2 elders 10 questions to get answers to for me.
10 years later I called one of them up and asked if they had my answers yet. By then I had read Crisis Of Conscience and had them answered by Ray Franz.
I invited several JW”s to come see me over the years. I am very interested to watch a tag team at work. I time their chants. Average 10 minutes. I watch the resting one chant by flipping pages in his Bible.
If they flip pages while I am talking, I stop till they notice I quit talking and quit flipping pages. They flip pages to block out hearing what I have to say.
Several have come to talk to me and they always promise to return but none has ever returned. The last one said “You are too smart for me.” as he was leaving.
