Speaking as an American, I like to think that in a way the United States is really the most successful result from the colonization process of the British Empire. Think about it: there are probably more people of British descent living in the US than there are in Britain. And in WW II, while the tremendous contributions of the Canadians, the Australians, the New Zealanders, and others of the Empire cannot be discounted, it was the industrial might of the US (along with Britain as an unsinkable aircraft carrier) that turned the tide in the European theater.

Also, the submarine technology and the submarine launched nuclear ballistic missles that guarantee Britain's strategic deterrent all come from the US. (We thank you for your contributions to Inland Revenue.) Also, since the US has plenty of uninhabited desert land, we allowed Britain to test its nuclear devices here; we are thankful that the UK has in turn allowed the US to locate some millitary bases on UK soil.

We are also thankful to British leaders like Winston Churchill (one of only two foreign nationals ever granted US citizenship) and Margaret Thatcher (who with Ronald Reagan and John Paul II helped beat back the communists in Europe); we appreciate the wisdom of the British in electing such people in time of great need.

We like British sports cars and we miss having MGs, Trimumphs, and other fun, moderate cost automobiles on our highways.

We also appreciate your tourists' spending, so feel free to visit often.

    'Cousin' Skimmer,

I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating your kind comments. I love America, though I realise such a remark is stupid without saying the reasons why; but it's really not for this thread, and 'America' deserves books of praise.

Just two points: 1.the UK benefits more from US tourists than the other way around, and 2. I think too much of an American virtue is made of the WW2 intervention, when the distinct possibility of a Nazi world empire made such US intervention a necessity of self-interest.

To all UK posters: c'mon post up!

    Ok. Ok. I'm here.
Don't post much nowadays, 'cus I've said pretty much what I want to say already. But I do read this board quite a lot.

I live in Leicester (East Midlands). Hey! any get-togethers planned for the midlands anytime soon?

PS. Did you see the father and son fishing in the latest Watchtower (Oct 1st, page 10)... I thought fishing was a no-no?

    Hi All!

    I'm from Halifax, West Yorkshire.
I must admit, I'm surprized there aren't more regular Brits here.
I know, Uncle Onion, Da Luvvin Bruvva are down South. And Qwerty's not a million miles from me.

Any lurkers who know me "hi!" I'm still the same person as B4!!!

No longer a resident but I still have a UK passport even if it was issued from Washington DC,

Well, I'm a Brit, but the past year I've been an ex-pat and look set to remain that way for a few years.

Born and raised in Central London, spent a decade in Devon, mostly Exeter, now live in the South of the Netherlands.
