Being a professional baseball player. I ended up being a professional golfer and teacher, one of the few hats I wear.
As a kid I lived for sports everything else was secondary, I love competition, in competition winning and losing is part of the game, it's a given.

hmmm...I was always fed the motherhood, JW wife thing which was never appealing to me so I didn't dream about it. When I was about 13 though I thought it would be cool to be an artist. At 15 I started dreaming about being educated (I was homeschooled after the 5th grade---and by homeschooled I mean left to take care of my younger siblings all day) So I guess going to art school and grad school was a step towards it.
I don't know now though...now I dream about having health insurance. -

oh, forgot to add being able to listen to a christmas song without feeling guilty or that I would die at Armegeddon.

under74, you mean, you never in any way try to purse your art work? How about goals? What you did was commendable, however, how about yourself, what did you do to try to achieve your dreams?
I'm trying to appeal to your inner emotions by asking this question. We begin life by being a child. As I watch my grandchildren grow and it makes me feel good that they are given every opportunity to think for themselves.
I may have been a strict dad but I always allowed my kids to be themselves. Today there on their own and doing their thing. My oldest sons are into music and now they have their own internet radio station. I am helping them to make their dreams come true, they have become achievers. Mind you, it takes effort and a firm individual constitution to have your plans succeed.

Oh, I'm still going after it...I even get paid for it sometimes and what I studied for I get paid the rest of the time.
But I still want health insurance (wink)
I guess what I'm saying is that it's been a struggle and still is because I wasn't raised with the "be yourself" and the type of work I've gone into is not exactly steady. But it doesn't mean I think I'm a failure or anything.
I understand about what you mean though about the inner child...I guess when I was little I wanted to be a princess...or better at drawing than my older brother--I beat him! -

under74, I'm glad to learn that your still going after it, go for it! Life is a struggle, I've been to hell and back a few times so I know what its' like to experience rough times.
Take care princess.

When I was really young, I wanted to go West and raise/break horses. (Now that my back is fixed, perhaps I'll ride again some day.)
When I got older, I didn't know what exactly I wanted to do with it, but I wanted to learn to speak French fluently. I am a Francophile! So I did take French in Jr. and Sr. high school, and, finding I had an aptitude for learning languages, took two years of German in h.s. as well. I eventually went to Switzerland to immerse myself in French, passed my Alliance francaise and came back to the U.S. and got a job with Renault. I started as a bi-lingual secretary and moved up into Public Relations.
Somewhere in there, I got married, raised a family, and only spoke French with the friends I had made at work.
Now, I am pursuing a BA degree in French - Secondary Education part-time and am trying to decide whether to [double] major in Spanish or only minor in Spanish. Probably, I'll major in it, so I will be more likely to actually get a high school teaching job. The competition in French is tough and there is less and less interest in the language. Meanwhile, Spanish is likely to become the second official language in the U.S. in the next generation or so. I'm already at the 200 level in Spanish.
I am almost 51 years old and it's taken me this long to decide that teaching French is what I want to do. And since I like high school age kids, I'll begin there. I'll likely be 54 before I've gotten my degree (having cancer and the finances mean only part-time attendance), and then will only work 10 years or so before retirement, but I take comfort in the fact that the median age of high school teachers in my part of the world is 45, so I still have a chance at being hired!
Sometimes living one's dream takes a long time to come to fruition, but it is my firm belief that one is never happier than in its pursuit.

Brenda, outnfree, your on the right track. Don't let any obstacle get in your way. You sent tingles down my spine reading your post, happy tingles.
It warms my heart to know people are pursuing their goals. These goals don't have to be earth-shattering.
Under74, your more than welcome.
