Maybe it's already been talked about here but has anybody seen: What the(bleep) Do We Know?

I just got done watching it. After studying quantum physics for the past few months and the link to spirituality this movie is great!

It gives a magnificient theory to life and demonstrates the futility of our old concepts of God. It points all humanity in a new direction!

I've seen it. Sorry to burst your bubble so soon in your thread... but that show is nothing more than mystical pop-culture psycho babble that is not founded in reality.

Most of the ideas they expressed were way out there and based on profound distortions of quantum theory. They were seriously stretching the facts to come to their BS conclusions.

In my opinion, the show is grossly irresponsible in the manner in which they present their ideas… also very deceptive.

You'd get more facts about physics from watching Road Runner cartoons.

I certainly respect your opinion Elsewhere but could you explain where they distort the facts about quantum physics. How much do you actually know about the science?

Also, my bubble is not burst. I've learned from my experience as a JW to not get stuck in beliefs, I simply love exploring new ideas.

Well for one, the pictures they showed of the water with "good" and "bad" words pasted on its sides is an old hoax. You can look it up. The guy who did that "experiment" refrained to tell anyone that the 'before' pictures were of liquid water and the 'after' pictures were of frozen water. THis is obvious when you realize you cannot get those beautiful patterns unless it is a crystal. I'm sorry, but that documentary has little credibility. Basically, it is a flashy re-packaging of self-affirmation and how it can change your life. They also suffer with the false-humility of which we are well aware of, being in (at one time) the Organization. They spend much time reviewing their (prior) scholastic achievements in order to make what they are about to tell you more credible.

I can see why you apreciate it for what its worth, and that's fine, I respect that - but I do not respect ignorance and especially not a love of ignorance.

One of the main things I have a problem with is how they presented the idea that we create reality by observing the universe. This creates a very simple, yet major, problem: How could we have observed the universe if we did not yet exist to observe it? Basically a "chicken and egg" problem. There is also the problem of this creating an infinite number of observers... We create reality by observing our environment, but then someone else observing us must have created us, and yet another observer created our observer… and so on and so on. The "wave functions" that are collapsed are extended out infinitely.

This whole thought process is an echo of the old, disproved, idea that the earth is the center of the universe and the universe exists solely for us. Basically it's an ego thing. "We are so important that the universe could not exist without us". *** gag ***

Another, more likely, theory was proposed decades ago that many of these psycho babble people tend to avoid and never present in their television programs and books: We do not collapse the wave function... nature does (referred to as the Ubiquitous Whole theory). This means that we are not necessary for the universe to exist. It can exist just fine without us here to observe it. Once again we are no longer the center of the universe and the universe will go on just fine without us. It also eliminates the problem of having an infinite number of observers to collapse the infinite number of wave functions. This is the theory I am far more likely to believe.

Thanks for the input daniel-p. I can see what your'e saying about the water crystals and would like to get more info on it. I'm glad that they told of their backround and education, these are people who study and dig for answers unlike the people I used to get my answers from.

However I didn't see them as arrogant. They readily admit that the more they know the more they don't know, they're baffled but speculating.

Also, these are people from different backrounds and schools of thought that come together and harmonize thru science, not conforming dogma. They don't speak as an authority that is asking you to follow or believe---just think.

It continues to amaze me how people are so eager to judge other's experiences and beliefs on this site. I guess I can't expect much more then that because it is something that is practiced so intensely in the JW religion BUT DAMN! Let people have their own experiences and the joys that comes to them through those experiences without throwing a wet blanket on it.

I have learned enough in life to understand that since this bothers me so much that I must be doing it myself in some way. "If you can spot it, You got it". But if I am ... shame on me too.

Onesong - I am so happy you enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed it too. Rather people can prove the things on it were 'right or wrong' fact or opinion ~ who cares. Some of those things resinated with me when I watched it a couple of years ago. I just LOVE experiencing and enjoying the 'possibilities'.

    Namaste

    Onesong,
About the "conscious water" thing, the man's name was Dr. Masaru Emoto - a doctor of alternative medicine. You can read about his experiments here:

    Onesong,
About the "conscious water" thing, the man's name was Dr. Masaru Emoto - a doctor of alternative medicine. You can read about his experiments here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masaru_Emoto#The_controversy

I was mistaken in saying he did not inform people the beore pics were liquid and the after pictures were frozen. His experiments were in noticing the chnages involved in solidifying.
I won't go into in the controversy here, I don't want to start a debate, but there is sufficient controversy involved concerning his experiments and it just put a damper on the otherwise interesting experience of What the Bleep Do We Know.
