Like Blondie, I left an apostate organization. I consider myself now to be enlightened.....saved......from a hell-on-earth existence as a jdub. When I come to think about it, leaving the WTS is kinda like being resurrected to a real life.

Yes, it is an apostate organization, just as Christianity is an apostate teaching from Judaism. You're still technically an apostate if you leave even an apostate organization. But it's not necessarily a bad thing. The word apostate has nothing to do with which point of view is right or wrong, only that a person is no longer affiliated with a particular group.

The term as used by the Witnesses is inappropriate. The thing is that the Witnesses try to make "Apostate" a special term that carries a significance that the word simply does not mean.

Yup, Jeffro. The WTS version includes horns and a forked tongue and tail.....with a pitchfork. Anything to frighten their minions off from having contact with anyone who's had the good sense to leave and get on with their life.

By the Watchtower's definition I'm an apostate and an Antichrist!

Great comments, thank you all. OK, give me your viewpoint, yesterday my mom (witness) and I spoke. Four out of her twelve children were raised by my aunt. Now, two out of the four are JW's.

These two JW's (raised by my aunt) do not consider my mother their mom because she did not raise them! I asked, who gave birth to them? Are they apostates?

I find it insulting, but only when used by them. I read here recently of somebody commenting at a meeting that 'there are people here who are apostate methodists, and apostate catholics'. I dug that!

I don't consider myself an apostate, because the biblical definition of the word means somebody who denies Christ. Whatever that means.... okay sometimes I think he was just a nice guy who got unlucky, but still I don't deny him. Still a top guy!! So, no apostate here.

Where exactly did you find this "biblical definition of the word" apostate?

Are they apostates? Not unless your mother is an organization of which they were once a member but are not any more.

I always get this confused. Is it apostate or apostrate? I think I consider myself apostrate! (Smile)

Jeffro, doe the word 'apostate' apply only an attachment to an organization or, or, or, or?
