Dateline was a good example of this. Here was the most trusted name with the news.....and the society tells the publishers the media is spreading lies as a result of apostates.  Many wouldn't watch the program.

I found that was the case here in the United Kingdom when the Panorama program was shown. The letter we got on that Sunday from the society warned us about the program, but it didn't tell us catgorically not to watch it. All the same, many witnesses still carried out an effective "boycott" of Panorama. In fact, many still avoid it, as if it were as "demonic" as 'Charmed' or 'Buffy'.

For a while, my parents turned Panorama off when it came on, but i think they've gone back to watching it now, because they know how it is such a relatively objective and informative program.... plus, soon after, there was a program about a scandal in the Catholic Church... so they could no longer resist the temptation to watch it, LOL

Hartstrings - The one point that has been made consistently is that this is from a non-JW, authoritative source. I know with all the posts it has been impossible to follow this thread in-depth, so I'm bringing that out one more time.
