Hello Enderby and welcome, Great story!
My wife and I had similar instance, I was the father, and we raised three kids in WTS ( were all out now) anyway, we started doing research on the other books that are quoted in the bible, we weren't hiding the fact either because we thought we were doing honest bible research. Well three elders paid us a visit, they weren't happy either, our reseach could lead to apostacy we were told, my responce was "If this is the truth, the truth should stand up to scrutiny rigth? Then, what does the truth have to fear?" That didn't go to well...
We had other questions for them ( U.N; Disfellowshipping/shunning and others)
And the fact they were not following scripture as set forth in Matthew 18:15-17 upset me a bit, because they said a sister had told them about some of the things we were learning in these other books of the bible, no she didn't try to reason with us, I was there, she was all friendly, but the next thing you know were getting a visit from the elders
(Matthew 18:15-17) 15 "Moreover, if your brother commits a sin, go lay bare his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two more, in order that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter may be established. 17 If he does not listen to them, speak to the congregation. If he does not listen even to the congregation, let him be to you just as a man of the nations and as a tax collector. . ."
No, they came with malise in their hearts, their minds were made, no discussion, that's OK my wife and I walked away with a greater knowlege and personal integity.
And when do they follow verse 17..."speak to the congregation" they never do, everything is done in private (to hide their dark deeds), which leads others to speculate.
You did the right thing Enderby!
Hopfully that exsperence didn't stop you from the search for Truth!
Again, Great story!
Kind Regards
