Does anyone remember this poem? It was all about a person who lived in a box that they loved. They box made them feel safe and sound, and they knew they could trust the people inside their box, but they were afraid of the world outside.
I've been trying to find it but apparently I can't remember an exact phrase from the poem, which is making the search difficult. Can anyone help?

This isn't what you're looking for, but your thread brought to mind ''Prayer Before Birth'' by Louis MacNeice.....read it?

Is it this one?
My own place
no one can find
It took me years
To fix it all up
No it's not a prison
I can come and go
But this is my place
Where nobody knows
Silence me here
Wash me with water
Bathe me with fire
So I can grow young again
This is my Box
I hold in my heart
And when I die
It will fade away.... -

Midwich, no I haven't, but thanks for the suggestion!
under, no, that's far too nice a poem. :-) The one I am looking for was an allegory about narrow-mindedness.

do you know if it's older or more recent? children's poetry, 7 stanza or whatever? Where and when do you remember reading or hearing it?
Just think more information might help to narrow it down. -

Actually, I believe I read it here. It was written simply, but I don't think children would understand it. It was quite long as poems go. I'm sorry I don't have any better information than that. I guess that's I can't find it! :-)

hmmm...I know someone a few months ago (I think) had a thread for favorite poems to be posted...
Sorry I'm not more help. I'll try and bump this thread so others will see it--I know the feeling and I hate it. -

Have you tried 'Googles' search box?

LOL...Google is the first place I looked. Unfortunately, the only phrase I thought I remembered from the poem was "This is my box," but unfortunately those are all absurdly common words, and the quoted phrase didn't net me anything, so I must have misremembered it.
Hmm...Thanks anyway. I'll just keep this up in Active Topics for a while and see if the original poster spots it.

My Lovely Box
I want to show you my box.
It is a lovely box. It is sturdy and strong box.
It is beautifully shaped with 6 smooth sides
I love my box
In side my box I am in my own favorite place
My box clearly defines the boundaries of my world
I know who is in and who is out
I know what is in and what is out.
My box answers all of my questions……I like that.
I am secure in my box.
I love my box.
I occasionally invite people into my box
I measure them and size them to be sure they fit into my box
So long as they are the right size I can have them in.
Not many measure up.
Those that don’t fit have the option of changing their size.
They can lose and arm or a leg.
But strangely most of them don’t want to do that.
They tell me they don’t like my box.
I don’t understand these people.
I love my box.
Some people tell me they like my box
It is mostly the ones who fit my box who tell me this.
They have one just like it.
They love their box too.
Inside my box I am in my own favorite place.
My box clearly defines the boundaries of my world.
I know who is in and who is out.
I know what is in and what is out.
My box answers all my questions……I like that.
I am secure in my box.
I love my box.
I have heard other people talk about their box.
There are some mighty strange boxes out there
Some decorate their boxes on the outside and make them pretty.
Some line their boxes on the inside to make them soft and comfortable.
Some like their boxes plain and simple.
Some eat in their boxes, others don’t.
Some have parties and celebrations, other don’t.
Some say a box is a place to be serious.
Others laugh a lot in their boxes.
I don’t know, I don’t know.
All I know is I love my box.
I thought about leaving my box once
I looked around but everything seemed so…well…dangerous
I thought if I left my box that I would end up losing my way.
Outside my box I had feelings that frightened me.
I heard words that were different from my words.
I saw people I didn’t understand.
I didn’t know where the boundaries were.
The world was too big.
I didn’t know what to do.
In the end I went back to my box.
Inside my box I am in my own favorite place.
My box clearly defines the boundaries of my world.
I know who is in and who is out.
I know what is in and what is out.
My box answers all of my questions….I like that.
I am secure in my box.
I love my box!
