Watchtower 1995 October 15 p.26 What Future for the Sheep and the Goats?

“Admittedly, the number of anointed Christians left on earth is declining. However, as long as the anointed, making up “the faithful and discreet slave,” continue to provide spiritual food and direction, prospective sheep have an opportunity to do good to the slave class, just as the ‘great crowd out of all nations and tribes and peoples’ have done”

As the number of anointed Christians left on earth is declining who is going to provide spiritual food and direction when all the anointed have died.

lime buddy, they are training the "Nethinim" and "Given Ones" the non-spiritual Israelites to take over when they leave, don't you know.

Moreover, well-trained members of the great crowd are now doing administrative and other responsible work alongside the anointed Governing Body of spiritual Israel, just as non-Israelite Nethinim worked with the priests repairing Jerusalem’s walls.—Nehemiah 3:22-26.

Today, however, the remnant of spiritual Israel on earth must go on decreasing. (Contrast John 3:30.) Finally, after the demise of Babylon the Great, all 144,000 ‘sealed ones’ will be in heaven for the marriage of the Lamb. (Revelation 7:1-3; 19:1-8) But now the other sheep must go on increasing. The fact that some of them, comparable to the Nethinim and the sons of the servants of Solomon, are now being assigned weighty responsibilities under the oversight of the anointed remnant does not cause them to be presumptuous or feel self-important. (Romans 12:3) This gives us confidence that as God’s people "come out of the great tribulation," there will be experienced men—"princes"—prepared to take the lead among the other sheep.—Revelation 7:14; Isaiah 32:1; compare Acts 6:2-7.

    w92 4/15 p. 31 Announcement ***

As explained in this issue of The Watchtower, there is a group serving with spiritual Israel today that is comparable to the Nethinim and the sons of the servants of Solomon who returned from Babylonian exile with the Jewish remnant; those non-Israelites even outnumbered the returning Levites. (Ezra 2:40-58; 8:15-20) "Given ones" from among today’s great crowd are mature Christian men who have had considerable experience as a result of caring for oversight in branches, in the traveling work, and among the 66,000 congregations now established throughout the earth.

Recently, Kingdom Ministry Schools were held worldwide for the instruction of overseers and their assisting ministerial servants. In the United States alone, 59,420 overseers attended. These "older men" were thus equipped to fulfill their responsibilities more effectively.—1 Peter 5:1-3; compare Ephesians 4:8, 11.

At the Brooklyn headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses, some "given ones" have served for a great many years. These include mature overseers from the great crowd who have gained a wealth of ability and experience. Thus, the Governing Body has selected a few of such overseers to assist in the meetings of the Governing Body’s committees. These are not necessarily the men with the longest record of service. Rather, they are mature, experienced men with qualifications that fit them for giving assistance in particular fields. Their being assigned to work with a committee does not give them a special status. As Jesus said concerning his disciples, "all you are brothers." (Matthew 23:8) However, much will be entrusted to these men, and consequently "much will be demanded" of them.—Luke 12:48.

    Nethinim = Given Ones

Yes, I think the WT quotes above do show that there were a group of non-Israelites that assisted the Israelites in the temple (of course not in the only-Israelite areas). The Gibeonites were such a group, cut the wood and drew the water for the sacrifices. One quote was as recent as 1993.

What the WTS does is make the application that non-anointed JWs represent the Nethinim today in assisted the "spiritual" Israelites in worshiping God in the earthly part of the temple. What doesn't fit in the application is the literal Israelites did not disappear off the earth and be replaced by only Gentiles to carry on the worship of God on earth.

    Here is a 1995 reference

    w95 7/1 pp. 21-22 Dwellers Together in a Restored "Land" ***

    Active in the "Land"

    6

Just as proselytes in the land of Israel submitted to the Mosaic Law, the great crowd today in the restored "land" obey Jehovah’s commandments. Educated by their anointed brothers, they abstain from false worship in all its forms and observe the sanctity of blood. (Acts 15:19, 20; Galatians 5:19, 20; Colossians 3:5) They love Jehovah with their whole heart, mind, soul, and strength and love their neighbor as themselves. (Matthew 22:37; James 2:8) In ancient Israel proselytes helped with the building of Solomon’s temple and supported restorations of true worship. (1 Chronicles 22:2; 2 Chronicles 15:8-14; 30:25) Today, the great crowd also share in building projects. For example, they help to build up congregations and circuits, to say nothing of undertaking material construction projects, such as Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, and branch facilities.

    7

In 537 B.C.E., when Israel returned from exile in Babylon, they set about organizing service on the temple site. However, the Levites who returned were not very numerous. Hence, the Nethinim—circumcised alien residents who previously were assistants of the Levites—were given increased privileges in temple service. They were not, however, equals of the anointed Aaronic priests.—Ezra 7:24; 8:15-20; Nehemiah 3:22-26.

    8

Anointed Christians today have followed this pattern. As "the time of the end" has progressed, the remaining ones of the anointed have become fewer and fewer in the "land" of God’s people. (Daniel 12:9; Revelation 12:17) In view of this, the great crowd now accomplish most of the work of rendering "sacred service." (Revelation 7:15) Following the lead of their anointed brothers, they "offer to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips which make public declaration to his name." They "do not forget the doing of good and the sharing of things with others," knowing that "with such sacrifices God is well pleased."—Hebrews 13:15, 16.

That's a WATCHTOWER quote - how would a JW explain Nethinim?

According to the WTS when Christ arrives ( to execute judgement as opposed to approving Booze Rutherford and his cronies in 1919) the Slave is still to be around to be condemned or approved.

If all the anointed die then this prophecy cannot be fulfilled the WT way, and it will be clear we were all expected to shake a telegraph pole to harvest apples, then plums, then grapes, then oranges then walnuts, depending on the current teaching.

A "good" JW would go to the WT index for the answer thus to the quotes above. Most JWs who came in after 1992, have little knowledge of this doctrine. What they would say in answer to who will be in charge after the anointed all die, is the great crowd, specifically the appointed GC elders at Bethel.

Most JWs can't explain how 1914 is arrived at or in what way the generation doctrine changed in 1995.

A more recent application is the "chieftain" mentioned in the OT being the GC in charge on earth after the anointed leave. Most JWs can't explain that either.

Other applications made by the WTS not understood by most JWs
