Interesting...I told my husband in IM today let's just take the word CHRIST out of christmas and just call it Xmas in our house, because nothing WE do on December 25th has anything do with Christ.
And neither does most anything else that people do on Christmas hahah...except for the nativity seen and church...but you already know that you, you trouble maker you.
I am going to make a Flying Spagetti Monster to put on top of our tree...no star or angel for me, thank you very much hahah.

I'm guessing you don't take "Mass", either. Why don't you just call it "X"? But then the "X" is a replacement for the "Christ" bit anyhow, so you could call it " " and just treat it like any other day. But then I'm guessing you'd feel like you were missing out some, so why not just call it a "Holiday" and say "Happy Holidays" like some do, instead of making a big deal out of it?

Hi Ross,
With many things in life, such as, for example, the English language, meanings change. The actual festivity of Christmas, in the greater scheme of things, is relatively new and was always meant to be a period of celebration. True, one is supposed to remember the sacrifice made by Jesus (Christmas representing the birth of the one who laid down his life for us), but it is THE period when people are supposed to forget their differences and come together in the heart of Chrisitian friendship with the hope that this will continue to permeate throughout the rest of the year.
So, to answer your question, YES, Christmas IS for fun, because fun respresents joy and happiness and, my goodness, we ALL need that!
Look at what happened to us whilst in Borgdom! I cannot ever say I was truly happy at any time. Stressed, mostly! Now, Christmas gives me a good excuse to be completely happy and unwind. I love everything about it (apart from the commercialism, of course, but one can easily ignore that aspect). Christmas happiness doesn't have to be costly, either. We can still enjoy ourselves on a meagre budget.
If you're passing this way pop in for Christmas cake, pudding, chocolate - you name it! We don't have much alcohol because we're not drinkers, really! But we DO have some in!!
I LOVE Christmas and hope that it will be around for centuries to come, for the benefit of others. Giving and receiving, laughter, happiness in the home. Fun indeed - and all worth it!
Love,
Ian

seeing the laughter on childrens faces at Christmas Time, you'd have to say there was a lot of fun in Christmas.
But there is in all celebrations, isn't there? Oops, I forgot the Memorial!! Now there's no fun in that, for sure!
there are many christians i know who avoid the razzamatazz of christmas but what they take seriously is the coming together for songs, praise and communion.
Seems to me that Christmas is what you make it. I've found that many ex-dubs , ones who've never previously celebrated Christmas don't have a history to draw on - so how do they really celebrate it. It comes from years of trying, it seems!
