I still don't know how I feel about all this. I think that the Old Testament was written during a different, more violent era and it reflects that. Its hard to reconcile these things with a "God of love".
Look, it was easier and cheaper to scare the hell out of people with a blood thirsty god, than to jail them or beat them into submission. If they could get people to believe that God was going to torture them over any little thing, then they could control people. Control is the issue there.
