Ignorant question of the morning, I know, but I've never been to a dub wedding:

Do they move the chairs into 2 sections (like how a church is set up), so that as a bride, you get to walk down the aisle..... or will the hall remain with three sections of chairs ?

Back in the 70s and 80s our hall had chairs that moved so they would create any aisle down the middle for the wedding party to walk down. When the chairs became permanent (and in other halls) the wedding party would walk down one side to get to the stage, and up the other side when it was done.

Hehe, that remembered me of that couple...when they were told to kiss after the ceremony, the groom plented a big, long, wet kiss (with lots of tongue!!) on the shy bride. Everyone was shocked into silence.

What I recall well was the young JW girls when dancing their hip movements were very timid and limited as if they would be considered provocative if they moved their hips more intensely.

It shows how controlled they are when compared with the worldly girls.

The food was plentiful and good though.

Boaring and drepressing. I say depressing because you see these people act like animals when the food comes out. Made me sick.

I think the type of reception pretty much depends on the congragation, parents, children and what the current trend is. And of course money that is available for such an occasion. I have been to every sort of wedding reception and all of my experiences have been different from one reception to the other. I have always been a witness and have only been to one wordly wedding. So I can't really compare except to say that how much fun you have at one really depends on who is coming to the reception.

I have seen receptions where they had open bars for an hour or two and others with none and some that had the bar open all night. However, I do know that if a Witness drinks too much and the elders get wind of it, guess what, they just might find themselves being reproved, I have seen that happen a couple times, that will take the shine off the boots.

good thread, I enjoyed thinking back on all those weddings, I personally always enjoyed going and socializing to whatever extent was possible.

I wouldn't know. I almost never got invited for the dinner at wedding receptions because I was untitled. Usually only elders and ministerial servants were invited for the dinners here. The rest of us couldn't enter the receptions until our betters finished their meal.

A couple of years before I DA'd (and I was already starting to loose interest) I got counseled by the elders after getting hammered at a reception. It was held at an elder's house and he was the one that bought enough booze to float a battleship, but I was the one that got talked to.

Depending on which part of the country you live in, as well as how liberal or not the folks in charge are, you could be bored out of your mind, or have the time of your life.

I was one of a rebelious chosen few folks in a JW band. We played at many of the receptions and I, litterally, was quite shocked, though not offended as to how Jehovah's people can " Shake Thier Booty Down ". For those that know what I'm talkin' about, there is nothing more quizical and sometimes comical as seeing a bunch of dedicated, baptised servants of the most high get thier grove on.

Ever witness 100 of your sisters and brothers all doing the line dance? It's truly an awesome event to behold. You might just have a ball

""I have never seen a public "You may now kiss the bride", Yuk..""

Boy, you must not have been at the same weddings I have. I have been to several where the brother performing the ceremony had to give a cough to break up that first kiss, including my own.

"" The family speeches are usually interminable""

I'm not sure what you mean by family speeches, never been to a wedding with such.

""Entertainment usually consists of family games , no worldly music""

This really tells me that we traveled in different crowds. Games, at a wedding ? No wonder you were bored. As for music, live band at ours and NO they were NOT witnesses. Others that I have been to have had D.J.'s, some of which had major investments in equipment and cases of CD's. As for food, well there I can agree with you. The food can be varible some really good some really terrible.
