  being naive and ignorant.

  Why would it be viewed as a violation of neutrality
  (by their standards) to hire a political lobbyist to
  try to get the zoning for their building projects?

  It would be different if they were lobbying for a certain
  bill to pass because it would allow them to not pay taxes
  or something. Maybe. But this doesn't sound like politics
  to me.

  Presumably because the lobbyists have to engage in the political process in order to get the zoning changed?

  They hired a lobbyist because they have no in-house planners to approach the City Council for them. Which is lame because the ammount they gave them for that one year is way more than what it would cost to find some brother or sister on the outside to do it. This just shows how INEPT the society is in how they interact with the world.

  They say they are politically neutral . . . not politically inactive:-) By definition, *neutral* means indifferent. Hiring a lobbyist OR lobbying themselves is hardly indifferent. Lobbying is the opposite of indifferent.
