    Hi Tattogirl,

Good to read your posts again, I was wondering how things were going for you.

Since I'm just a normal looking dude, I never had to go through your "book cover" experience, but I noticed while I was studying (which is as far as I got) that conformity seems to be pretty normal. I have no experience with other churches, so I don't know how they pressure others to conform to their standards.

I'm glad you didn't get sucked in. You kept your head up and it seems to me you have a good understanding of who you are and where you wanna go. Congrats!

    Jer.

    Tattoogirl:

The business about the hair and tattoos would have caused you problems sooner or later. You are absolutely right. God doesn't care what we look like, He sees the heart. As a father of two ex-JW kids, when they showed up at my house with the pierced body parts, [Son had his tongue pierced and his nipples, too, had white hair with black tips and some sort of Oriental symbols tattooed on his back.]I surprised him by laughing with him about it. I remember saying something about wouldn't our old friends in the congregation be flipping out over him. My daughter also had her eyebrow pierced and had, I believe, blue, pink, jet black and a few other colors there for a while.

Point is: It don't make a bit of difference what we look like. I have male friends in their fifties with long pony tails. I look like a Hell's Angel when I ride my bike. [You'd be surprised how many mothers pull their small children out of my way in the convenience stores when I pick up a nice cold beverage.] BTW, my head is almost shaved. And according to Kent, I'm UGLY! I want to know who gave him my picture!

Be glad you found out the truth about 'the troof' sooner rather than later.

    Welcome back!

    Welcome back tattoogirl

I am so very glad this happened. It was your wonderfully individual appearance that saved you from this org. I wish more people would have pink hair and tattoos while considering being a JW. It would would have prevented them from being accepted and possibly have made all the difference. I have a tattoo that I'd felt guilty about almost since the week after I got it. (It was a spur of the moment, rebellion-motivated thing). Only when I finally rejected the JW mentality did I finally feel okay with it. Those darn JW's are responsible for my inability to enjoy something like an itty-bitty tattoo even years after I stopped going to meetings! Talk about mind control! I agree that God doesn't care what we look like. It's the invisible stuff that matters.

No door to door stuff but I guess I see I wouldn't be a good representative for the JW but I think I am a good representative of mankind so that is enough for me. I like pink hair, today I promised the girls I'd go green if they won the tennis championships. My job allows colored hair and tats but only cuz once people meet me they all say it fits me. Anywho you all are soo nice and great I should have listened to ya sooner.

I'm sorry it all turned out this way for you Tatoogrl. I hoped against hope that things would work out for you - the people at your cong didn't seem too judgemental towards you from your reports. Trouble is, black or white, the cat treats the mice the same way.

God is real, but people or groups who claim to be his exclusive channel aren't.

    Glad to see you back!

You're not so bad yourself, would just hate
to see you lose your sparkle and turn into
just another door to door salesperson for a
multi million dollar publishing company where
youre just a time card statistic and your acceptance
depends on losing your sense of identity and self worth

I was wondering how it was going with you. I had not seen a topic posted by you in a while. SORRY it had to be that way, but it is. It is like that for everyone here, so I am not surprised. Remember we do care and we all hope you can look back on this experience and smile some day. When you see them going down the street, remember it could have been you.

    Hi Tattoogirl,
I feel bad that it didn't work out because they judged you on your appearance. That is totally wrong, but that's the way they work. On the flip side, I feel GREAT that they are not going to make you one with the BORG.

    Dear Tat,

Welcome back! I'm glad that you didn't succumb to the destructive mind control techniques of the Watchtower. You may still not realize it, but they are a cult.

I hope one of the things you do at this point is to channel the energy you are using on negative emotions into a more creative outlet. Don't waste your energy on them. Find things that you like to do. I know you are a very creative person. Take an art class.
    Meet other open minded people.

I once took a ceramics class that taught Native American pottery. In the class, we would make pots and then on weekends we would go to the beach and camp out together. We would all fire our pots in a big bonfire together. It was such a blast for me. Many of the people I met were like soulmates to me. We all had the same creative energy and we liked to express it in a similar fashion.

I think you can make connections like these.

    Peace,

    Ray Skyhorse
