Aw....maybe.
What about the young married couple who loved each other so dearly. It was Christmas and neither had any money to but each other a gift.
So she shaved off her lovliest asset - her beautiful flowing hair - and sold it to to a wigmaker to be able to buy him a golden fob for his watch, his most treasured possession.
But he had sold his watch to buy her a lovely brush for her hair.
I've always considered that O'Henry story more potent than R & J.
Maybe it's time for an O'Henry revival. One of the great American writers.
(Okay, his stories are just short fluff pieces - but what's wrong with that?)

Under 74 .. I did google however, there are pictures of the movie with Rock Hudson, but not the final scene (or at least not that I could find). But I have hopes, I'll see if I can order it from the states. And Camille as well, considering Arrowstar is betting on that one - and I like the story of Camille anyway.
Wombat, no, didn't know the story, but it's a gatting-misty-eyes story none the less.
I can hear Gumby mumble again: "women!" LOL.

Lady Lee
I know nothing about the movie. I just wanted to say
HI!

Satanus
I can hear Gumby mumble again: "women!" LOL.
He does that (mumbles) cuz of the stuff he smokes. You should see him crawling around in his underware, looking for an ashtray, mumbling to himself, while his wife cleans up after him. Sometimes he missed the newspapers she puts out for him, heehee. He is almost house trained

Could you be thinking of "Love Story"? It's been years since I've seen that movie. I know the girl dies at the end, but don't remember how it went.
Just throwing a suggestion out there. -

wombat- the film you're thinking of is called "The Last Leaf." But I think there were a couple of films based on the story but called by different titles...
