They teach 144,000 is a literal number. They will reign with Christ for the literal 1000 years.

They also teach that Jesus started reigning in 1914. The majority of the 144,000 were raised and started reigning with Christ in 1918, (four years later).

The rest have been reigning for various times since they died after 1918. Some of the 144,000 will survive Armageddon and start reigning after that.

So how will a literal 144,000 reign for a literal 1000 years?

This was beaten up on another thread, but it deserves to be here, too.

They believe:
Jesus was one hot preacher. People couldn't help but listen to him.

"Jerusalem was filled" with his teaching.

The congregations were spread far and wide, with a central governing body sending missionaries and proto-CO's out to help the many, many congregations.

All first century Christians were "annointed".

Only 144,000 people will be annointed.

So despite the astounding success of the first century Christian's efforts, they must believe that something less than 90,000 people were Christians in the first century. (This despite Acts reporting 5,000 and 3,000 being baptized in single events.)

(The Watchtower did deal with this problem, but even a JW could see the answer as lame.)

(1) Anyone who is not a Witness at Armageddon is going to die eternally.

(2) Anyone who dies BEFORE Armageddon has a chance at resurrection, because their sins are paid for.

(3) It takes six months to upwards of a year to become a Witness if the student works at it.

(4) It takes a few minutes to kill someone.

(conclusion) it is much more efficient use of time to go on a killing spree than to preach to people.

This point has been touched on....since almost all of the anointed are dead (no offense, but please hurry up and die), and the New Testament was written for them, it will have no more target audience and will become increasingly irrelevant. Did god really intend for this supposedly all important piece of literature to be understood by so few and once they're gone to no longer directly apply to anyone?

I find it interesting that even though one of the main reasons CT Russell rejected mainstream Christendom was because of the predestination issue, they still ended up believing in a form (or forms) of it. Eg. the belief that even though individuals aren't predestined, the org is, so by joining it, your salvation is assured. And then there's that one about all "right-hearted ones" coming to "the Truth". Huh? Isn't THAT the same thing as predestination?
