FInally I think we are going to go to the Land of Eire! Who on this board lives there,
and can give me some suggestions? I think we'll focus on the west, using Shannon
for arrival and departure.

Do us all a big favour while you are in Ireland. Find Charles Taze Russell's official membership listing on the Mother Masonic Lodge in Ireland.

Oh you lucky duck Auntie Jane... I've always wanted to go there. Kiss a wee little leprachaun for me won't you!
I am always telling my bf that I have Irish in my blood... A dermatologist says that I have Irish skin too.
Well im not living there anymore although i am from Ireland. If you are holidaying in the west and you dont mind a driving . Worth going to Killarney in co Kerry. Although bit commercialised and a bit plastic. Killarney is a lovely place with its lakes and fells as the song goes. But you should go for a spin around the ring of Kerry. Very picturesque, but if you are doing it in winter , please drive slow. small steep roads up into the mountains.
Also if you dont mind a bit of a drive and fancy a bit of shopping . Cork city would be worth a visit. Galway is also another nice city . Just a few places of the top of my head. Oh yeah if you fancy an unusual walk across long stretches of limestone rocks. the burren would be worth a visit. Never been there but people are always telling me they thought it was very ubusual . pics on the net will satisfy curiosty.
Hope you have a nice time.

Oh Auntie Jane! You are the envy of many here!!! I visited Ireland when I was but a wee lass of 16.
The first boy I ever kissed was an Irish lad named Mihail Flemming! So long ago!
We went to Shannon and did the south of Ireland tour.
I visited my ancestral town in county Cork.
I will never forget the trip to the beach. Huge large shells just laying all around!
Too bad I was so young and shy! (Would have done more than kissing I'm sure!)
Have fun and make some friends of the locals.

Oh thank you all for the nice words, I wish you could all join me. Let me tell you this. At 50+ yoa, and being a cancer survivor, I have decided that life is way too short. Believe me, we are enjoying spending our kids' inheritance! Ha! This is a lifelong dream of mine and I hope it is ONLY my first trip! The best part is that our 3 adult kids and their spouses and SO are going along, no grandchildren in the family yet so it makes it easy. There will be 7 of us, and I am the 'unofficial' UNPAID travel agent!
Thanks for the suggestions; I wish you could all fit in my handbag like wee little leprechauns and go along for the ride; I will tip up a glass of Irish whiskey for each of you!
AuntieJane, of the always looking for an excuse to imbibe class.
Remember: Get CT Russell's official Irish Grand Lodge listing. Take a photo or steal it. Whatever it takes. Thanks Peace
Well, I live in Wales but next to the ferry port where ferrys go over to Ireland, and I go to Dublin quite often.
You really should check it out, its a lovely city with a lot of history, and the people are very very friendly.
