I must be optimistic because I keep on keeping on, knowing there've been so many times I've not accomplished what I set out to do.
I must be pessimistic because so many times my optimism has been quashed by reality.
These have made me realistic in the end, so there's a balance.

I look at all situations as oppertunity, whether good or bad I always learn from the exspreance, nobody likes to be in a bad situation, and some can be terrible/life threatenning. But regardless of the situation if we don't learn from it, then we may keep repeating it.
One example, a company I worked for a few years back layed-off a lot of employees, myself included.
most were worried as to how they were going to pay their bills, but to me I looked at the layoff as an oppertunity to get a better paying job , which I did. Because while I was working for them I became complacient/comfortable in the old job, the new job paid more and had better benefits.So rather than a bad thing it turn out good. But you can't sit around and do nothing, you have to make the effort.
From my own observations of people, those who work on having a good/positive attitude/optimistic outlook on life seem to fair better.
than those with a pessimistic view, it seem, things always go wrong for them.
Realists believe in what ever is happening at that time, whether good or bad. But does that mean they can't be optimists or pessimists.
If in a bad situation, they couldn't have hope the "Optimist" or see no hope the "Pessimist"
These are my own views, able to be proven wrong at any time.
I just try to look for the good in all things, which isn't easy at times.

I think that i am realistic, though i have been told that i am pessimistic. Perhaps its just that reality sucks.
