For your reading pleasure: Plotnick, Roy E. (1 January 1980). "Relationship between biological extinctions and geomagnetic reversals". Geology 8 (12): 578.

Cliff's Notes: there are no recorded mass extinctions caused by reversals in the earth's magnetic field.

I'm lost for words. What the hell has the opening post got to do with evolutionary biology? Or even the big bang theory? Why would anyone describe it as a "good post"?

I do not see how a geomagnetic reversal would be catastrophic, the suns magnetic field reverses polarity every 11 years.

IIRC it flipped sometime last year, and most people were oblivious to it.

If Earths magnetic field weakens it'll still protect us, if it completely vanished the Ozone will provide moderate protection(some people will get cancer). It would most likely take thousands of years of constant bombardment from the sun for the Earth to lose its atmosphere with no magnetic field at all. Venus has little to no magnetic field and still maintains its atmosphere.

The Future Squad has assembled a team of top magneticists to address the declining magnetic field. Despite many obstacles, the team has tested and are ready to deploy a deep mantle resonator that can charge the outer core with ions and supercharge the global magnetic flux.
