If faith is required then how can you be right and everyone else wrong? Wouldn't that be fact?

By the way BlackSwan I loved your DA letter. I remember it well. Any response to it from anyone significant?

Which one of Noahs family was assigned to collect the > 850,000 species of insect and put them in the ark? -- stillajwexelder.

With all the debris floating around everywhere, would not the insects have their own way of survival without needing refuge in the Ark?

thx onesong! (good comment!) I got a card from an elder requesting that I meet with him and another elder. I didn't. I sent him another letter with a little more reasoning and restated where I stood. The family burned their letters, I supposed they had to make sure that they couldn't tape the pieces back together and read it when their curiosity got the better of them...or worse, those demons tape it back together.

schizm, all 850,000 species??? oh, oikay.

In response to question "How have you been?"(usually asked with sickening amount of mock concern and high-and-mightiness)

Me: I've been doing great! I'm really hopeful and looking forward to the future for the first time in quite a while.

"The Watchtower acknowledges that it is not infallible. Hypothetically, is it possible that they have mistakenly identified themselves as the one true religion?" -- Dave.

    No.

"Wars, disease, and other ills have declined in recent years. Could the Watchtower be wrong about this being the time of the end?" -- Dave.

Most definitely, the WTS is wrong about this being the time of the end. But being wrong on this point, as well as being wrong in other matters that I could mention, doesn't in itself rule the WTS out as being "the one true religion". It's the determination to be doing God's will that shows that a religion is "true".

    I liked Doof's one;
Is the WTS directed by Holy Spirit?

I know many JWs that have laboured over this internally. They come up a semi satisfactory answer, but are always on shaky ground with it. Any answer they give can be counteracted.
Yes, the bible says HS guides the elders. - So how come they appoint wrongdoers?
Yes, Holy spirit chose the F&D slave - What scripture shows that it would be the WTS? When were they chosen? (1919) Oh, and what did they teach when they were chosen in 1919?
Yes, the HS is the reason for such growth in the Organisation - But haven't the 7th day and Mormons grown at the same rate?
Yes, we have the most love, we don't go to war - Funny but don't the 7th dayers say exactly the same thing?
Yes, that is why our doctrine is right - But didn't JWs say the end would be in 1914, and then 1925? Didn't they used to say to worship Jesus? Didn't they say the last generation was in the 1800's, and then the 1900's and now sometime in the 2000's?

Hypothetically, is it possible that they have mistakenly identified themselves as the one true religion?" -- Dave.

    No. -- Schizm

Wow, interesting. You do realize that anyone that holds firmly to their faith would say the same thing about their religion, don't you? And for the same reason.

They're right because they really, really, sincerely want to be right. And they can be wrong about other things. But not this. Because they try so hard.

Seriously, that doesn't set off any alarms in your head?

As I said up above, Dave: It's the determination to be doing God's will that shows that a religion is "true".

    Any questions?

    >>It's the determination to be doing God's will that shows that a religion is "true".

Listen to Mouthy. Listen to greendawn. Listen to you.

Don't you think that you all have a determination to do god's will?

Religious leaders are not a singular group of criminals as the Watchtower would leave you to believe. Just like the governing body, they have massive flocks to watch over and they try their best to keep them within the bounds of their definition of godliness. Yes, they have scandals. For every scandal you can list for them, a similar one can be listed for the Watchtower.

If your statement above were true, what meaning could Paul's words have: "They have a zeal for godly devotion, but not according to accurate knowledge"? The Watchtower has repeatedly stated that determination and sincerity are NOT indicators of being in line with god's will. Surely you can't use that same yardstick to approve your own, but deny it to others?

    Dave
