  That is such complete and utter bull$h!t. I'm sure if they subpoenaed his medical records they'd find various blood work results. He is only refusing (and using that flimsy claim that it is against his religious beliefs) because he knows DNA would incriminate him. If giving blood is against his religion, so must molesting a 13 year old be against his religion. Hide behind one "belief" to protect yourself from punishment resulting from committing a crime that is also against one's beliefs. How absurd.

A Jones County judge ordered Jones to provide a sample of his blood for a DNA test to determine whether he fathered a child after allegedly having sex with a teenager. But Jones claims giving blood is against his beliefs as a Jehovah's Witness, Hattiesburg's WDAM TV reported on Thursday. Jones is accused of having sex and impregnating a 13-year-old girl in 1999 who later delivered the child prematurely, court records show. The baby did not survive.   LAUREL - Laurel City Councilman Joseph Glenn Jones is expected to provide a sample of his blood for DNA testing today to determine whether he fathered a child with a teenager in 1999. Jones County Circuit Court Judge Billy Joe Landrum ordered the jailed councilman on Wednesday to comply with a search warrant prosecutors filed in November seeking the blood sample.

  Mr. Jones is a public servant in this community, people are interested in this case and this case needs to be handled," Landrum said. Jones is being held without bond in the Jones County Jail on sexual battery charges. He is accused of impregnating two girls, a 13-year-old in 1999 and a 14-year-old in 1995. Landrum set a March 29 trial date on the sexual battery charges. Jones adopted the 14-year-old's child in 1998 after telling a chancery court judge that he was the father. The 13-year-old lost her child when she had a miscarriage on Dec. 27, 1999. Law officers nevertheless obtained a DNA sample from the 13-year-old's deceased child. They compared it to a DNA sample - that was obtained from Jones without his knowledge - leading to his arrest. Assistant District Attorney J. Ronald Parrish filed a search warrant in November seeking another DNA sample. That came after Jones' attorney questioned the validity of DNA testing that led to Jones' arrest. After the court hearing, Jones' attorney, Robert Smith of Jackson, provided a statement he said was signed by the woman who was 13 when she allegedly had sexual relations with the councilman. In the statement, the woman, now 20, accused Parrish of forcing her to return to Laurel from Des Moines, Iowa, and jailing her for 11 days until she agreed to give a sample of her blood for a DNA test. She said in the statement sh e was pregnant and had a miscarriage when she was 13 - but that Jones was not the father of her child. She said in the statement she had sexual relations with "several different guys" at the time. The statement identified the woman by name; the Hattiesburg American, however, does not publish names of victims of alleged sexual assault. The woman could not be reached for comment. Parrish said he had the girl picked up in Iowa last summer, where she was in trouble with the law on a drug-related charge. He said he brought her to Laurel and held her for a short period of time in the Jones County Jail. Parrish said he didn't know the exact length of the woman's stay in the jail, but added that it was not for 11 days. "When she got here she willingly gave a blood sample," Parrish said. Parrish said he expects results from the latest DNA test in about two weeks. "You can browbeat a rape victim, but you can't change DNA," he said. "That dead baby's DNA is what it is." Landrum did not rule on several motions Smith filed Wednesday. One asks the judge to replace the prosecutors because District Attorney Anthony Buckley represented Jones before he took office in 2004. "The only way to remove this conflict is if Mr. Jones agrees (to allow Parrish to prosecute) and he will not do that," Smith said. Buckley said he doesn't believe there is a conflict in the case. "Nothing in this current case, which is being handled by an assistant district attorney, has anything to do with my prior representation of Mr. Jones," Buckley said. "Generally, there's a conflict if you gain knowledge from a prior representation of a client that would impact a future case," he said. "That's not the case here."
