  The CO last week gave the following talk, "A People Prepared for Survival"

  He solely used an Old Testament example, that of the Israelites preparing to eat their lamb and greens in haste and mark their doorposts with blood. They only had a limited time to get prepared, get the sheep, cook it thoroughly before the Angel of Death came to kill Egyptians firstborn. side note: I was thinking actually, the Israelites were in the land of Goshen, so any plagues from 4 onwards wouldn't have affected them.

  He compared this account to the "faithful and discreet slaves" preparing us for survival.

  What a jerk. As if the OT example has any modern relevance for potential Armaggedon survivors.

  Another tactic to intimidate the flock.

  Wow, what a flashback...

  I remember a talk very similar, but it was over 30 years ago, in the big run-up prior to 1975, when i was just a wee one.

  The CO (can't remember who) gave a contrast between 2 Israelite families, one a "fine upstanding example", the other who liked to cut corners.

  The fine upstanding family did everything exactly as Moses had said, splashed the blood, prepared the lamb just so, etc. etc. and everyone made it out of Egypt just fine.

  The other family said something like, "Splash blood?!? that'll ruin the decor of the house. Let me get a paintbrush and dab it around a bit."

  When it came time to eat the passover, "It's so late, and little Johnny is so tired, let's just send him to bed."

  And, when the angel of death came, as they had not followed all instructions to the letter, the angel of Jehovah killed little Israelite Johnny. Even thought he parents escaped with the rest of the Israelites, their hearts were heavy as they thought of their lost child.

  I think the idea was, JW parents should unquestioningly obey every dictate coming from "Jehovah's visible channel", and not even "take it easy" on their own children, if they wanted to see everyone survive Armageddon.

  As you can imagine, it made one whale of an impression on my little 6-8 year old mind. To this day, I remember feeling horrified at what happened to little Israelite Johnny.

  you must realize that the WTBTS can twist any scripture to apply to them, hell, they look at their "pure language" crap there are more classes of people than you can shake a stick at by the time you figured who the who was what you needed to change your thinking. NEW Light , old light, new light, THe WTS's God must be a confused God , due to all the changes and impications given and taken.

  And the way they link the FDS with their salvation, that makes him sound really important and authoritative. In fact the FDS wants to just exploit them and doesn't give a toss about their salvation.

  They couldn't have been in that much of a hurry if they could slaughter, skin and cook a whole lamb thoroughly before leaving Egypt. Has anyone ever had a whole lamb roasted over a fire on a spit? It takes practically all day just to cook it, and it must be tended to constantly, keeping the spit turning so that it doesn't burn.

  This comment is extremely disturbing, when you consider that JWs believe they are a modern-day fulfillment of the nation of Israel, and that Worldly People™ are the equivalent of wicked Egyptians who deserved to be killed by "the Angel of Death". The state of hypervigilance that this kind of indoctrination can induce could very well end up backfiring on them when some JW nutcase takes it upon him/herself to become the Angel of Death in order to assure the Resurrection™ of Worldly™, Inactive™, Disfellowshipped™ or Disassociated™ family members and friends.

  And the modern equivalent would have to be: Eat at McDonalds when the great tribulation starts!

  I can just picture 70-yearold elders and their wives stuffing their faces with big Macs and fries like there`s (literally) no tomorrow. And then collapsing with heart attacks from saturated fat-overdose, and by that being assured a ressurection. The JW-version of Jim Jones.

  I was this same complicated dynamic described a hardcore indoctinated follower since birth (1957) with a life-long chronic debilitating illness that made me feel that life was going cheap-Danny Haszard

  Regarding your side note............the angel was not only coming to kill the Egyptian firstborn but ANYONE who did have blood on their doorposts. So, if an Egyptian, foreigner or Israelite had that blood of the lamb on their doorposts, they were spared the visit from the Angel of Death.
