For those of you who weren't familiar of the posters twelve years ago.
"You know" was the one of the resident trolls at that time. Anytime you rolled your wagon across the stone bridge, he crawled out and jeered at you, especially if it was especially damaging to the Watchtower image.
"Maximus" also was a famous poster, He had an association with NH Knorr, he was a district servant or something similar. He was sick, and faded away but not forgotten.
Hillary Steppe also was an excellent thoughtful eloquent poster. The nay sayers torrented him continously until he gave them the finger and faded good bye.
Island Woman too was a thoughtful woman who was a great influance on the board.
Mouthy we all know. I have known her since about fifty years, before we both were booted out, back in Montreal.
belbab, reminising
BB please give us more on TIME, what is the LINK to Ezechiel 8:16, sun=time?
must have been a fertile ground in MTL,QC 50 years ago (1963?) with GB member(s) and the more intelligent JWN posters in one place.
That ex-splanes why the sparks were flying.
more juicy details?
WOW! This is what I'm saying, we need you guys to hang in there and stay on this site. Much, much appreciated. Love to read up on the history. When I joined here, there were so many smart folks that seem to have faded from here and it's ashame. For new ones it's like we've faded twice. First, getting away from a world of make believe(the org) and then suddenly the people we had learned the truth about the truth from are fading.
I know it's our turn to help others see it for the older ones have moved on or just tired out but it feels more like family when one of our "old relatives" (no pun intended) write to us on here. Nice to meet you and hope to hear more from you, Belbab

What a d!ck.
Don't want to get off the subject here, but to my knowledge, Maximus was never a District Overseer. He was a Bethelite at 16. A young genius, invited into Bethel by Nathan Knorr, Maximus was assigned to be a proof reader working on the first part of the New World Translation that was released a zillion years ago! And yes, when he was older, Maximus was a bodyguard for Nathan Knorr because Nathan trusted him with his life. Also Maximus was one smart fellow and Nathan enjoyed their conversations.
Eventually Maximus married a local NYC JW girl and they both entered the circuit work. In time they had a child and left the work settling in the area where they served. After another child was born they moved to the area where Joe and I lived at one time and we all attended the same congregation. While we were in Bethel, we heard the surprising news that Maximus and wife left the organization, but our source didn't know why. Max was an important man to the WT decision-makers. Whenever there was some big problem in a congregation that needed a WT representative to intervene, Maximus was the man who was called. One time, Lucille Henschel told me that she and hubby, Milton, sent Maximus a Yearbook every year. She didn't know that Max had left the organization some years back and was quite shocked when I told her what I had heard.
In 1999, a year after I left the organization, I went to one of Richard Rawe's small conferences where some thirty former JWs convened. Maximus heard through the grapevine that I was an XJW and going to be there so he and his wife came. Joe was still an elder but he wanted to see Maximus so much so that he drove me there even though he knew that Maximus was not a JW any longer. After all, Maximus was not disfellowshipped, so back then it was almost an ok thing for Joe to do. BTW, Joe would not attend the conference, but he and Maximus talked for quite a while afterwards, but they did not discuss why Maximus left the religion.
We heard from Maximus just recently. He's near 80 and going strong. Due to ill health, Maximus never wrote the book about his past that he had hoped to write. For those who want to know, Maximus is at peace, enjoying his life and family and no longer concerns himself about his JW past.
Hi belbab. Great reading this, your old thread, and your new one, the open letter to David Splane. You sure can tell it like it was and is so please keep posting those experiences.

Thanks Barb!..

Thank you Barbara,
It's too bad he wasn't able to write a book, or even dictate one to be written. So many people would be so encouraged by his story of being at the "top" so to say, and then leave.
It is fantastic he is going strong and enjoying life though!
Barbara,
Thank you for you insightful comments about Maximus. His post (along with yours) are very informative as people that were right in the middle dealing with the secretive GB.
