Auld Soul said: I have a theory that much of Texas' aversion to the WTS is an ingrained distrust of anything from a particular (unnamed) region of the country. No data to support this yet, so maybe I shouldn't call it a theory.

I know someone who just paid $375,000 for a 1300 sq ft dump in N. Hollywood - what a joke.

That's how it is here (NJ), too. But what you get in TX for $175K is amazing!!!! Or $80K!!! Here, I can't even buy a garage for either price!!!

I live in Fort Worth. There are a lot of bedroom communities with various price listings. I live in Wedgewood where the median price for a home is probably in the 100K range.

There are listing services galore. Contact them and they'll find what you are looking for.

Let me know when you get settled and we'll have a sip o'chai together.

I like Texas. My sister moved from Tampa to Irving and found a really nice 4 bedroom house for $220k in a nice quiet neighborhood.

Big Tex and I live in Murphy, which was a small country crossroads between Plano and Wylie, in the Plano Independent School District (which is one of the best in the area). Murphy is being built up but they're trying to keep the lots a little larger than in Plano, so there's more of a country feel and less congestion. We really love living out here and the schools are WONDERFUL. The house prices are not half bad either -- for $200,000 you can get about 2700 square feet of house and a nice sized lot, and that's a NEW house.

If you can come down for a fact-finding trip, let us know. We'll be glad to show you around our area, if you're interested.

Oh, and Plano is about 20 miles straight north of downtown Dallas. Murphy is east of Plano by about 5 miles.

I second what Arrowstar said about Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. The Carrol ISD which is right next door is also very good. The Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD also has a good reputation. You might find a better value for housing in the HEB area. Colleyville housing tends to be very large homes on very large lots with prices to match. Let me put it this way. None of the staff at the Colleyville Wal-Mart can afford to live there.

    I would love to!

I look forward to meeting all of you....hopefully in Murphy in May.

    Lonely-

I, also, live in the Fort (Worth).. Depending on where your commute leads you, presuming you work outside the home, west of fort worth has great housing values.

I live in town, just west of downtown, cuz i like staying close to museums, downtown etc.

Lots of downtown hi rise living going up too...

Fort Worth is a very livable city..

    Lonely,

We bought a 3500 square foot home in one of the best school districts in Houston, in an area where the crime rate is less than half the national avg, and the unemployment rate is also very low.

    We paid $152,000.00
