mrsjones5, I would disagree with you slightly. Gospel music (much of which I like) would be considered from false religion and therefore apostate, even if the lyrics did not contradict JW teaching. Other types of music like R&B and good ole Rock and Roll are simply worldly and depending on the lyrics perhaps demonic (demonic is a word that says it all...)

Ok, but what if this music isn't affiliated with any religious group? Most of what I have is music that you can listen to on the radio. (Not all of it, but ususally the main song could be listened to on the radio.) Is it still considered apostate? Like you said, even if the lyrics do not contradict JW teaching, isn't this kind of music better than the so called "demonic" music?

Are you being entertained by what Jehovah hates?

We are not to be in the company of anyone who are not Jehovah's Witnesses, whether that be through actual physical contact, or within thier company through association of thier thoughts and ideas, whether that comes from reading thier books, listening to thier music, watching thier television programs, going to thier concerts, plays, movies. All of these things would constitute being in association with these persons of the world and not in the company of our bretheren.

Gospel music as well as programing promoting biblical counsel other than through the FDS, gospel music, religious programming are all considered as unhealthy. We would not want to be offending Jehovah through our choices of entertainment. Only theocratic pursuits have absolute safety; kingdom melodies, kingdom songs, the bible on tape, etal. To be entertained by anything other than that for which is Jehovah's Witness inspired is to be in association with what Jehovah hates, period.

    Apostate music?

"Worldly" music can't be apostate because it was never involved in "true" worship to begin with.

Taking a Kingdom Melody and changing the lyrics to be in opposition to the WTS would be apostate music. Or if an apostate wrote a song denouncing his faith as a JW or singing the praises of something in opposition to "Jehovah", that would be apostate music.

Undercover, Thanks for that perspective. So as long as the "Gospel" music is not recorded by an exJW denouncing his faith, it's not apostate. Hmmmm. BB
