I had the opportunity to have a discussion with an elder the other day. We were both in a public place and we started to talk. He was depressed because one of his teens is now df'ed. I told him to tell him hi for me and that I would be happy to talk to him anytime. I smiled and said, "It's not the end of the world." He smiled back and said, "not yet" I said, "XXXX, I don't like like that anymore, I live each day for what it offers me, whatever happens in the future is out of my hands, I never think of 'end of the world' anymore and I can't imagine what it is like to think of that everyday."
He smiled again and said nothing. I told him that I had read a disturbing article about the blood issue, and are JWs allowed to take blood now?
"No, I have heard nothing." ???
"I read an article about how JWs can take blood fractions, (etc, I explained what it said)"
"Well, as technology improves, they are able to extract blood parts that we can use."
"So, can we take an organ transplant?"
"That is a matter of conscience"
"But an organ transplant allows in more foreign wbc than a blood transfusion does!"
"I know."
"Hmmmm, it must be confusing for everyone."
"it is"
"Well, heres to hoping we never have to deal with the blood issue"
"I agree"
Seems to be some serious confusion and let down within. He was sad and had a 'plow ahead no matter what' attitude. I had a very good discussion with him though and really felt sorry for him.
