Terry? Is that a theory of yours or absolute proof? Should I be a follower of Terry and believe all his words? Just thinking to myself!

You DO have some devout followers Terry and they DO agree with your every word! Agree?

OK, We all know that governments and religions of all kinds had to have laws and punishment, to control the people, even the anicent governments and religions that came before God gave the Laws to Moses.

It never fails that we humans will and can comment the same sins and crimes over and over again. So it makes perfect sense to me that the Laws of anicent religions and government predate, and are similar to God's Laws to Moses. However I don't see any similarity between this law code of Humurabi and Moses Law.

In this particular one of Humurabi.

"If any one bring an accusation against a man, and the accused go to the river and leap into the river, if he sink in the river his accuser shall take possession of his house. But if the river prove that the accused is not guilty, and he escape unhurt, then he who had brought the accusation shall be put to death, while he who leaped into the river shall take possession of the house that had belonged to his accuser." HUH???

    Do NOT agree.

A follower goes where they are led.

    Where am I going?

What must you do for Terry to save you?

What are my requirements of you that you may receive approved status? How may I bless you?

    Etc. etc.

    You are being silly.

I'm just an ordinary person using my rational mind to understand things.

I present my opinion here in a forum where my ideas can be tested for validity.

When I am wrong I get sliced, diced and blended into a pulp.

I wish I could take my "devout" "followers" agreement to the bank for enough value exchange to afford new tires.

Slice and dice: Plato's view of the spirit or the "soul" in this case is far different than Paul's view. Plato believed the soul was reincarnated into another body, etc.

Immortality of the soul. Plato believed that though the body dies and disintegrates, the soul continues to live forever. After the death of the body, the soul migrates to what Plato called the realm of the pure forms. There, it exists without a body, contemplating the forms. After a time, the soul is reincarnated in another body and returns to the world. But the reincarnated soul retains a dim recollection of the realm of forms and yearns for it. Plato argued that people fall in love because they recognize in the beauty of their beloved the ideal form of beauty that they dimly remember and seek.

In the Meno, Plato has Socrates teach an ignorant slave boy a truth of geometry by simply asking a series of questions. Because the boy learns this truth without being given any information, Plato concluded that learning consists of recalling what the soul experienced in the realm of the forms.

Hebrews believed when you die; you are dead: no heaven and no hell (except the grave) where there is no thought or feeling, reward or punishment.

By the time we get to Paul we have a reward system consisting of what?

You die---but---you live! You take on a different existence as a living spirit in "spiritual body".

Jesus died, but, preached (while in hell) to the spirits imprisoned there.

If you don't understand what neo-platonic ideas were incorporated into what became Christianity you might do some browsing on the net. The fact of the matter is this. After Alexander there was a larger marketplace of competing ideas, philosophies and religious concepts. Which would a rational person accept? Would it be one life only and forever death? Or, a more competitive idea like changing into a spirit and living in a different milieu? The conceptual transformation from Judaism to neo-platonic thought is not radical enough for you?

Terry, I didn't mean to accuse you of trying to start another religion with devout followers. I meant that, what I have observed from reading your analogies on this web site that there is a group of unquestioning followers who hang onto your very word as though it was absolute truth and nothing but! Perhaps you are just not conscience of it.

However getting back to Plato....I can see your point in that many ideas and philosophies have come down to us through the ages, and why not, if they work for the good of the people. But I can't see where Paul got his belief from Plato.

Hebrews had no hope of a resurrection? How is that?

When Jesus told Martha that her brother Lazarus would rise again what was her reaction?
