I hated it, but put in my 10 hours (cheated) to remain an elder. Never was productive at it so I feel I am free from the blood of all men. and "women". No-one ever joined from my preaching. Oh by the way welcome beachbugg
Did anyone actually enjoy field service?

When I was 16 I was a pioneer and I was a very happy person. I loved it. But I believed I was helping people and doing a great work that meant something. I regret that that year was spent that way now. But Yeah I really loved it. Jonathan

I liked it when i was spiritual, leading feild service groups but it's not at all easy when you feel shit. Or your kids have just thrown up all over the elderly sister in front of you. Kids and teenagers very rarely ENJOY putting themselves through all that. How crap to preach on the street where your school friends live...i'd wanna shrivel up and die.

My aunt who at one time was a DO's wife used to refer to it as the "work we all love to hate"
I hated it, but I'm sure some like it. Some people enjoy cutting themselves with knives too

I did believe that this was "Jehovah's Service" - just that there must be something wrong with me, if I did not like what I was doing.
This is exactly how I felt.... pretty much about every aspect of being a Dub, but field service most of all. I would actually feel physically ill when it was my turn to get out of the car, and borderline panicky the rest of the time. I thought it was because my heart was bad though...
It seemed to me, though, that no one else in the congregation much liked it either. Nothing was said to the fact, but it seemed to be treated as a chore and something to bear. There was no "joy"... shoulda been my first clue.

Long time ago, a "company man" elder shocked me when, after a morning of trudging door-to-door, he said, "Man, I can't wait 'til the New System so I can take this book bag and throw it as far away as I can." As he spoke, he twirled around and pretended to heave his bag -- but of course he held on it. Looked a bit like a discus thrower in a track meet.
We all laughed, a little nervously. I was new at the time. In years to come, I often though how right he was.

I hated door to door, so I often would make up a reason to leave, like a distant return visit or a bible study. I never actually had a bible study. Instead I would go to some inactive JW or a JWs relative home, invite myself in with a box of fresh pastries and spend about 2 hours there. Far better than door to door in sub zero temperature!

I actually enjoyed it but never could figure out why I was so exhausted after just a few hours in service.
Compared to the type of evangelistic activities I'm involved in now, JW Field Service is a big joke.
