    Congratulations on your new life!

In my life, I am surrounded by sober alcholics and addicts and drinking alcholics and addicts. The clean and sober people in my life all swear by "90 AA Meetings in the first 90 days."

There are people out there who have been right where you are now, and they can help you.

I have to tell you, as an exJW, I sometimes have a really hard time with those meetings. I attend alanon meetings sometimes. They are meetings for family of alcholics. It causes some flash-backs to the JWs for me when people say, "Have you been making enough meetings?" or "It sounds like you need a meeting." I still go sometimes, and I don't have as much problem with JW flash-backs now, I think because some real time has passed since I was in the JWs, and because I know those flash-backs are just left-over post-traumatic stress.

Anyway, if you don't like the AA meetings, I would go anyway at least for the 90 days to get some support.

    Best wishes,

    -Lisa

PS: SOBER stands for Son Of a B*tch, Everythings Real! Why switch to another substance (weed) to escape reality?

Hey guys...I only said use weed if he feels he can't make doing AA it or he fails other avenues. They actually have marijuana maintenance for some at AA don't they? For those who go back to booze, if marijuana does the trick for awhile keeping them off, it's better than alcohol. I only meant it as an alternative if failure results trying other things.

In AA your theory is so well known that they gave it a name: it is called 'switching seats on the Titanic.' You still going down, brother! Sober people say it doesn't work.

And I never heard of marijuana maintenance for some at AA. I shall ask around.

I'm rooting for you to succeed, Steve, and you can do it, I'm sure! My brother helped my mother kick the alcohol habit relatively easily, which was such a shock to the whole family. But after being a hopeless alcoholic all of our lives, after some 30 or more years of it, she just lost her appetite for it because of the nutrition program my brother put her on. I don't know exactly what he had her do, but basically he supplied her with meganutrients, plenty of B-complex, supplements, quality protein, candy and juices, and she literally stopped craving alcohol. It was wonderful to see.

    Cigarettes were a different matter.

AA has all kinds of cute little slogans they use. They have their own language like dubs and can be as cultish as the dubs........(if you hang out too much with those attending) eg; "the Alano Club I'm not pushing dope here or the use of it, but to say if one uses weed they are "going down" is rubbish. Alcoholics have a hard time prospering, but I know many who smoke who funtion as well as the next guy. Some however do not but they are usually deadbeats to begin with. Gumby................................k....I'll shut up now

One of the hardest things may be social situations. If your friends drink, be careful... and the AA is a wonderful suggestion.

Thanks for all the replys. Most asked if I had considered AA. Oh yes, I'm in the process of finding a local chapter. Most of them seem to be set in churches, which is not a problem for me. Planning on starting this week with AA. I really don't wanna substitute one drug for another so I won't be smoking anything to help. Besides, I smoked enough pot to fill an average size car several times over, when I was a kid. Done with that now, but thanks for that suggestion. To sobriety then!
